Welcome back to the new school year!
On Sunday (February 2nd), we celebrated the Presentation of the Lord. This is an auspicious solemnity to begin our school year! We heard about how Mary and Joseph brought the child Jesus to the Temple to be presented, and how, already as a child, He had begun to fulfil the prophecies about the coming of the Saviour of the World.
At this Mass, we were also presented with candles and called on to be the light of Christ to those around us. What better thought could we have as we welcome our children to a new school year than that?
Being the Light of Christ to those around us is not an easy calling, and we are reminded that God is always with us to help us along the road. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has declared this year a Jubilee Year with the theme of Pilgrims of Hope. Children often express hope better than we can, they look to the future with eyes willing to see all the good things that await them on life's journey. As our children start this school year, let us all try to be people who bring Christ’s light wherever we go, setting an example of patience, kindness and forgiveness that our children can follow!
Important Dates coming up:
Opening Mass - Monday Week 3 (17th Feb)
Year 6 Mass - Friday Week 3 (21st Feb)
Reconciliation Formation Evening (27th Feb, at 18:15)
Ash Wednesday Mass Wednesday Week 5 (5th March)
May God bless us all as we set out with our children with hope in our hearts for the new school year!
Kind regards,
