Principals Report Week 10 Term 2
Dear Parents and Friends,
It’s hard to believe that we are now half-way through the school year! I thank all the staff for their dedication to the students and the commitment they show each day to educating the children, not only in academic subjects but in the Faith. I thank the students for working hard and doing their best throughout this semester and I thank all our parents for the great support provided to the school in a myriad of ways.
The BIG Challenge
The students are getting very excited about participating in our major fundraiser for this year. On Friday, they will engage in a variety of special activities and challenges on a rotational basis. This year, OSHClub will also take responsibility for an activity in support of the school and I thank them wholeheartedly for their generosity. I take this opportunity to thank Mrs Higgins and Mrs Hinds for their very hard work in organising the event and to thank the parents on the Community Council for arranging prizes and sponsorship. Thanks also to all our families for your great support of this fundraiser – we keep on surpassing our weekly targets which is just fantastic! The BIG Challenge promises to be fun day for everyone!
Start of Term Three
Term Three begins on Tuesday 13 July for all students. Monday 12 July is a system wide Pupil Free Day which means that staff will be at school engaging in professional learning but the students will not be in attendance. OSHClub has been granted a special licence to open on the Pupil Free Day to take bookings for the care of students.
Stranger Danger
This is just a gentle reminder, given the approaching holiday period, to take the time to talk with your child about his/her role in helping to keep safe at all times. Please discuss the importance of knowing where your child is at all times and discuss strategies for dealing with an approach by a ‘stranger’ and how the attention and help of the public can be gained in a situation where he/she might feel unsafe. A good rule of thumb is: It’s OK to talk to a stranger in the presence of mum/dad/carer but not if one of these is not present. Please also reiterate that nothing is ever too awful to discuss with an adult who loves and cares for the child; that it is important to let the adult know any information and how they are feeling so that the adult can help to keep the child safe.
I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break and look forward to seeing the children again when school resumes on Tuesday July 13 for the start of Term Three. I hope that everyone will have a chance to ‘play’ over the holidays and enjoy fun times in the company of loved ones.
Thought for the week:
"Play is the fresh air of the soul. It is meant to enliven us. It is meant to renew our energies regularly. It is the recess of life."
From: The Art of Life, Joan Chittister.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Holy Rosary Church, Watson
Dear Parents,
If your child is in Year 6, is baptised Catholic, has received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist, and wishes to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, please read the following information.
- FAITH FORMATION SESSION
As part of the preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, there is an expectation that the candidate and parent/s attend the Faith Formation Session. This will be held at Holy Rosary Church on Thursday 15 July @ 5:30pm. During this session, there will be some theological input as well as information and discussion.
Please check in using the Check-In CBR app and adhere to the sanitisation and physical distancing guidelines as set out in the foyer of the church.
- COMMITMENT TO ATTEND MASS
The regular Commitment Mass will not be held due to the restriction of 200 people being allowed to gather. Instead, you will be required to attend a Mass over any weekend in August to show your commitment to preparing for this Sacrament. After the Mass, please introduce yourself to the priest and present your commitment card to him.
Mass times are: Sat - 5pm and Sun - 8am, 10am or 5pm.
- ENROLMENT PACK AND RESOURCE FEE
An enrolment form, preparation booklet and resource fee notice will be handed out on the Faith Formation evening.
If you have any queries, please email me: liz.higgins@cg.catholic.edu.au
Peace and best wishes
Liz Higgins
Religious Education Coordinator
Thank you so much to the many students who so promptly returned their Library books this week. It makes our job so much easier when we don't have to chase up each overdue book individually. Just as a 'heads-up' for next term... Australia's Childrens' Bookweek is celebrated August 23-26. We will be having our annual Scholastic Bookfair during that week. A highlight of the weeklong celebration is our 'Dress-up as a Character from a Book' parade. Each child is encouraged to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book. We want to give you all time to think about and plan for this, especially as each child needs to bring the book with them to share with their peers. More about that in the newsletters to come!
Happy holidays to you all and don't forget to read, read, read!

For those families not aware of this initiative, or to refresh your memories, this initiative arose out of a desire to assist Rosary families dealing with the economic impacts of the pandemic by promoting Rosary family businesses within our local community.
The current flyer will be updated to include any additional businesses and will be sent out early next term, so for all families wishing to promote their business in the next edition, please email the Rosary Council at rosarycouncil@gmail.com
