Principals Report Week 2 Term 3
Dear Parents and Friends,
Rosary School and Catholic Education continue to take advice from health authorities in relation to COVID-19. The Catholic Education Office has a team that is actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation, paying particular attention to local hotspots and organising support for schools where required. Our school has implemented all safe hygiene practices in line with government advice. We understand that the situation is fairly fluid and we will communicate directly with you should there be any important changes in relation to our school operations in the coming weeks. We remind all families:
- If your child is unwell, to keep him/her at home.
- To ensure that anyone who presents with COVID-19 symptoms in your family is tested.
- Parents need to avoid routinely entering the school where possible but can attend scheduled school events (as permitted under the current restrictions) and meetings with teachers where required (physical distancing and hygiene measures apply).
lllness
To assist in preventing the spread of illness, and even more importantly at this time of COVID-19, we seek your co-operation in regularly reminding the children about basic hygiene practices including:
Hand Hygiene: frequent washing of hands with soap and water.
Coughing/Sneezing Etiquette: covering of the mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, disposing of the tissue in the bin and washing hands. Alternatively, coughing into the elbow.
The students are not the only ones affected by illness, especially at this time of year. Staff members may also require leave to recover from illness. When a staff member is absent, for whatever reason, we do make every attempt to secure a relief teacher. Sometimes, relief teachers can be in very short supply and it can be difficult to secure a replacement – especially over consecutive days. Relief staff may also be booked elsewhere or experiencing illness themselves which means they are not available to our school. If a relief teacher cannot be found, it becomes necessary to ‘split’ a class. This means that students from the one class are divided in small groups or pairs amongst the remaining classes in the school for the day. In this instance, students take ‘day away’ activities with them and work on these as well as joining in with the class group they are visiting when the activities are suited to their level. As far as possible, the regular teaching program is followed when relief teachers are employed.
Kinder Enrolment Acceptances Due
Please note that acceptances for enrolment in Kindergarten for 2022 are due in to the front office this coming Friday 23 July.
Annual Report
The school’s Annual Report for the 2020 school year is now available on the school website for the information of parents and the wider community. It can be located under the Policies and Publications tab.
Wakakirri
Whilst on Camp last night, the teachers and students gathered excitedly around the computer screen to watch the live stream of the Wakakirri performances at the Canberra Theatre. We may be just a little bit biased but we all agreed that Rosary’s performance was the best of the heat! It was a spectacle of light, colour and movement and a celebration of sound! Congratulations to all involved as it takes many people and a huge amount of effort to bring the performance to such a polished state. I thank the teachers – Miss Rich, Mrs Mogan and Mrs Hinds for their in-depth involvement and all the other staff members who gave of their time and skills. I especially thank our Assistant Principal, Mr O’Brien for his tireless work directing, recording, rehearsing and co-ordinating everything. As one of the Year 6 students said last night: “Mr O’Brien is our secret weapon!” Special thanks to Mrs Aggie Liso for all the time spent creating the stunning backdrops. Thanks so much to all parents who supported the Wakakirri effort in a myriad of ways. We cannot thank you all enough. Last but by no means least, huge thanks and congratulations are extended to our Year 5 students for being so very committed and producing such a professional performance. They were all stars!
Year 6 Camp
Our Year 6 students are enjoying a wonderful time on Camp at Berry. Activities include kayaking, hiking, archery, rogaining and a camp cookout where fresh damper is baked over hot coals and then drizzled with golden syrup! Lots of fun to be had by everyone!
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

PRAYER FOR CANDIDATES
Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people,
so that they may believe in You.
Look kindly on the candidates for Confirmation as they listen to Your voice.
Open their hearts to Your Spirit
and bring to fulfilment your good work that began at Baptism.
Deepen our faith in the Gospel and help us to pass it on by our example.
We pray that You will continue to guide us and sustain us.

Reminder that Bookweek is only 6 weeks away!!!
Our students are continuing their enjoyment of our Library literature programme this term, engaging with the Children's Book Council of Australia Shortlisted 2021 picture, novel and non-fiction books. We all LOVE celebrating and sharing high quality literature during our Library lessons, studying the visual literacies of the award-winning books. Bookweek is a highlight for most of our students in third term. Our annual dress up as a Character Book Parade will be held in week seven with a date to be confirmed. Please give some thought to the 'dress-up' or costume that your child will be wearing as it will be a non-uniform day. Our annual Scholastic Bookfair is on the calendar in week seven also. We will confirm details closer to week seven. We are conscious of Covid 19 and are hoping that we can go ahead with these plans...no crystal ball but lots of fingers and toes crossed! ?
