Principals Report Week 8 Term 3
Dear Parents and Friends,
As announced by the Chief Minister yesterday, the ACT will continue to be in lockdown until 17 September which is the last day of this school term. Remote learning will continue for this period but the school will be open to families who have no alternative but to send their children to school. These students complete the remote learning program on site. During the first week of the school holidays, the Chief Minister indicated that we will learn of the plan for schools for the start of Term Four. Let’s hope and pray that we can return to a face-to-face teaching model by then.
In the meantime, I hope that everyone is managing well and being patient and kind to one another. I cannot stress enough how important the positive attitude of parents, and other caring adults, is to the children in reassuring them that everything is and will be ok. I listened to Dr Michael Carr-Greg speaking on morning television the other day and he made this point strongly and also highly recommended that parents ‘put on their own masks first’ (oxygen masks as on an aeroplane) so that they are in the best position to help others. He stressed the importance of self-care: good sleep, diet and exercise to enhance mental wellbeing and resilience. I pray that everyone will stay strong, safe and healthy throughout the lockdown. Please reach out if you need any kind of support. We can get through this challenging time by supporting each other.
Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations postponed
As a consequence of the lockdown being extended to the end of this school term, we will not be able to host Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations which were scheduled for the last week of Term 3. These will be re-scheduled for the beginning of Term Four. Please keep in mind that there may be limitations placed upon us in terms of how these can be conducted at the time.
I will advise when new dates for Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations have been confirmed.
Enrolments
Please spread the word to all you know who have children of pre-school age that we have just a few places still available for next year in Kindergarten. We also have some spaces available in other year levels. Your assistance in spreading the message is much appreciated because we know that ‘word of mouth’ is so powerful.
I take this opportunity to wish all the dads, grandads and great-grandads all the very best for Fathers’ Day on Sunday. I hope you will be overwhelmed with the affection and appreciation shown to you by your children and grandchildren.
Fathers’ Day Reflection:
What Is A Dad?
A dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again.
A dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart breaks in silence when you get hurt.
A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Unfortunately, as churches remain closed for large gatherings, the Sacrament of Confirmation has been postponed. I have spoken with Fr Mannes and a new date will be advised next term. Please just put a hold on all paperwork (enrolment forms, baptismal certificates, letters, fee) until I can advise you further next term.

Due to the current ACT lockdown, all events planned for the remainder of Term 3 have been postponed. Updates will be provided once new dates are known.
The school counsellor, Jessica O'Rourke, is available every Monday and until 1pm on Tuesdays.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Jessica.
