Principals Report Week 1 Term 2
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome back to Term Two! There are many students who have changed over to their winter uniform! Given the warm weather we are experiencing, the children can choose to wear either the summer or winter uniform to suit the conditions and how they are feeling. By the start of Week 3, they will all need to be wearing the winter uniform.
Landscape gardening
Over the holiday break, we had some work done to refresh the gardens in various locations around the school. I extend special thanks to Mr Laurie Cullen (uncle to Lachlan, Luke and Liam Cullen) from Professional Plant Supplies for his plant species recommendations and for liaising with the landscape gardeners to complete the work. The gardens certainly do look refreshed and attractive. Unfortunately, the Lone Pine did not survive its second transplanting and it was removed. It will soon be replaced with a new Lone Pine with thanks to a family at the school, who wish to remain anonymous, for their donation.
Open Day and Enrolment Period
We will host the school’s Open Day on Wednesday 8th May – next week. Visitors will be welcome to come and have a look around the school at any time during the day between the hours of 9.15am and 1pm. Enrolment Packs are available from the Front Office. If you have a younger child who is commencing school in 2020, please collect an information pack from the Front Office. If you have friends whom you know are interested in enrolling at Rosary, please let them know that the enrolment period has started and inform them that packs are available from the school. Your help in spreading the word is greatly appreciated.
ROSACS Director
Welcome to the new Director of the ROSACS before and after school care service run by the YWCA at Rosary School, Lisa Healy. Alex Wale has stepped down from the position but will still be working within the service. Thanks to both ladies for their efforts in taking wonderful care of our children.
Condolences
On behalf of the school community, I express sincere condolences to Mrs Colleen Welsh on the passing of her dear mother on Easter Sunday. May she rest in the eternal peace of our Loving Lord and may the family be granted strength and comfort as they work through this sad and difficult time.
Bus Timetables
The new Transport Canberra timetable started on Monday, as a result Rosary no longer has any dedicated Action Bus service (country buses have not been affected). The timetable for route 53, which services the bus stops on Antill Street outside the ACU, is available from the Transport Canberra website.
There is a petition requesting that the Assembly call on the ACT Government to reconsider the recent changes to the transport network. If you would like to add your name to this petition it is being held at the Front Office.
Athletics Carnival
The weather forecast for tomorrow’s athletics carnival is not looking good. At the moment we are planning to proceed with the carnival. If the carnival is cancelled it will be a normal school day. Notification of any cancellation will be sent via email and SZapp. A message will also be placed on the homepage of the school website.
Supervision Times
Please note that supervision of students at school commences at 8.30am and finishes at 3.30pm. No child should be on the premises before supervision begins in the morning unless they are enrolled in before school care at ROSACS. Please make private arrangements for the care of your child if your circumstances make this difficult. In the afternoon, if we are notified that a parent will be inadvertently delayed, of course, children will be supervised until the parent takes over their care.
Kind Regards
John O'Brien
Acting Principal
