Principals Report Week 10 Term 4
Dear Parents and Friends,
On December 8, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is often misunderstanding as to the meaning of ‘immaculate conception’ and the following extract from Catholic Answers provides a clear explanation:
Some people think the term ‘Immaculate Conception’ refers to Christ’s conception in Mary’s womb without the intervention of a human father; but that is the Virgin Birth. Others think it means Mary was conceived “by the power of the Holy Spirit,” in the way Jesus was, but that, too, is incorrect. The Immaculate Conception means that Mary, whose conception was brought about the normal way, was conceived without original sin or its stain—that’s what “immaculate” means: without stain. The essence of original sin consists in the deprivation of sanctifying grace, and its stain is a corrupt nature. Mary was preserved from these defects by God’s grace; from the first instant of her existence she was in the state of sanctifying grace and was free from the corrupt nature original sin brings.
Carols Evening – CANCELLED
Unfortunately, due to the current health situation and the fact that neighbouring schools and other places in the local area have been adversely affected, we are taking a risk averse approach and cancelling the Carols Evening. Instead, we will have Carols by Daylight for staff and students only on Thursday. Students are encouraged to come to school wearing ‘something Christmassy’ tomorrow. It is a shame that we can’t have parents present but are pleased that the children will still get to enjoy the experience with one another.
End of Year Thanksgiving Mass
The End of Year Thanksgiving Mass will take place on Tuesday morning 14th December. Please be aware that we are unable to have parents attend this Mass due to the increased risk that the Omicron strain poses. We also need to maintain cohort distancing within the church and will need the whole space in order to meet the requirements.
Farewell
We will say ‘farewell’ to staff members, Year Six students and all students from other grades, who are leaving Rosary, at the final assembly on the last day of school this term. We will miss each one but wish them every success in both life and learning at their new schools and thank them for the wonderful contribution they have made to our school community. Please be aware that, given the special circumstances of this year, this assembly is for staff and students only.
2022 Start of School Date
The 2022 school year will begin on Monday 31st January for all students, Kindergarten to Year 6. The school day will start at 9.00am for students in Years 1 to 6. Kindergarten students will start at 9.30am on the first day only. The day will end at 3.00pm for students who catch a bus to rural destinations and at 3.10pm for all others. Kindergarten students will have a rest day at home for the first 3 Wednesdays of the term before starting full weeks at school in Week 4 (week beginning Monday 21st February).
REPEAT NOTICE:
Candy Canes and Christmas Cards
At this time of the year, children like to give one another candy canes and Christmas cards; which is a lovely thing to do. However, we ask children to place cards into their bags as soon as they receive them so that they don’t become lost and we ask them to take the candy canes home to eat. We inform the children that it is not appropriate to eat candy canes at school for a few reasons:
- Parents provide certain foods and expect that their children will eat these foods and not fill up on ‘other’ things
- Parents need to know what their children are eating
- The school discourages consumption of foods containing high levels of sugar, colourings and preservatives for health reasons
- Some children may have allergies to certain foods
- The wrappers are often hard to peel off the cane, coming away in ‘bits and pieces’ which often don’t find their way to the bin and thus create a litter problem.
I ask that you also speak with your children about these things and ask them to bring candy canes and cards home so that you can see what they have received. Many thanks.

YEAR 6 MASS - thank you
Year 6 participated in a lovely Mass for their final year of primary school last week. Thank you to Elizabeth Fryar, Mara Pangallo and Beth Campton for their preparation and to those parents who were able to attend.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL - thank you
I was informed last week that donations are not needed this year as St Vincent de Paul sourced pre-made hampers due to the uncertainty of Covid. Thank you to those families who already donated, I will deliver them to the church where they have a collection basket.
Peace and best wishes

Shout out to the Rockets!
Most of the Team started in 2021 new to netball so learnt the rules and reached for the sky - literally, as they needed to shoot with the 10 foot goal rings and most of the competition were half a metre taller. Whilst most of the games in the season ended in draws or losses, one of the girls commented after a game that we won saying, ‘winning didn’t feel as good as I thought it would!’. Ain’t it true?! The fun is in the team working well together and everyone doing their best. During the season we saw Hannah continuously build her confidence with some rock-solid defence, Genevieve led our goal scoring tally (no mean feat with a 10 foot goal ring), there was some fancy footwork and attacking from Ella, some creative decoy passing and pivoting from Davina, strong passing and defence and covering lots of ground from Ivy, some excellent intercepts from Eve, classy shadowing and defence from Charlotte and outstanding teamwork and passing from Emma. The post-game chant was always worth the wait ‘We are the Rockets, we never give up, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF! Well done to all the girls for giving their all, learning and growing this season.
The school counsellor, Jessica O'Rourke, is available every Monday and until 1pm on Friday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Jessica.
