Principals Report Week 2 Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
New STEM Program
This year our Year 3 to Year 6 students will participate in integrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) lessons facilitated by Mrs Kath Watson. Lessons will take place each Tuesday. In Semester One, Year 3 and Year 4 will have STEM lessons. In Semester Two, Year 5 and Year 6 will have their STEM lessons. This is an exciting addition to the extra-curricular activities already in place at Rosary. Mrs Elisa Pavlic, one of experienced teachers and a current Classroom Support Teacher, will teach Kinder Paris each Tuesday to allow Mrs Watson to teach STEM.
Anniversary of the National Apology
On 13 February each year we mark the anniversary of the National Apology by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to Indigenous Australians. On this day Prime Minister Kevin Rudd publicly apologised, on behalf of the Federal Government, to the Stolen Generations.
National Sorry Day is a separate day which is held on 26 May each year. This day is held to acknowledge the devastation caused to our families and Communities due to the forced removal of our children from their families resulting in the Stolen Generations. Sorry Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to Stolen Generations members and to remember those who have passed into the Dreaming.
Please keep Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, past and present, in your prayers and thoughts at these times. We acknowledge the emotion and heartache that these matters and days cause. This is a time for us all to continue the conversation and foster the spirit of Reconciliation between all people. We particularly keep in our minds the Indigenous children 0-17 years who continue to be placed into out-of-home care.
2022 Term 1 and back to School Information
This Friday teachers will email you relevant school and class information for your child’s year level. This information should provide an overview of the curriculum content they will learn this term and also other pieces of practical information. If you need further information or wish to discuss any matter, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or contact the front office at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Hopefully as the term and year progresses we can meet in person.
COVID Update
As you would be aware, all schools including Rosary are reporting to parents daily on any positive cases where a person has actually attended school. This report is provided daily and may provide some support to parents and carers in making decisions about their child’s attendance at school or when to take a RAT test. This information may also assist you in monitoring your child’s symptoms more closely if there is a known case in their year level. Thank you for your support and cooperation with our COVID safe routines and measures in place at school.
I wish you and your families all the best for the next week. God Bless.

Protective Behaviours - Early warning signs
Dear Parents,
This week our students will be learning about Early Warning Signs as part of the Protective Behaviours Program.
Early warning signs are the involuntary physical sensations that take place in our bodies in reaction to potentially unsafe situations. Our early warning signs alert us to danger or threats to our safety. Early warning signs may differ from one person to another, but we all have them. Children can learn to identify their early warning signs. Early warning signs can be fun and enjoyable when we have choice and control over what’s happening to us.
What our bodies say:
- ‘My heart is beating really fast!’
- ‘There are butterflies in my tummy!’
- ‘My legs feel weak and I have jelly knees!’
- ‘My mouth is so dry!’
Other early warning signs can include:
- tight shoulders
- sweaty palms
- red cheeks
- goose bumps
What can parents do?
Talk with your child about what happens in their bodies when they start to feel scared or worried.
What early warning signs (physical sensations) do they feel?
Use examples from your own experiences, e.g. when you’re running late for an appointment.
Watch for times when you think your child may be feeling scared or worried (examples are, high swings, going somewhere new, first day in a new class). Ask them to identify where in their body they can feel their early warning signs. Encourage your child to pay attention to their early warning signs and tell you when and where they happen.
Avoid telling your child not to feel scared, or that they are silly to feel scared. Instead, provide understanding, reassurance and encouragement to problem-solve the situation.
Kind regards,
Julie Godfrey
Coordinator
ESafety Week - Webinars for Parents and Carers eSafety's guide to helping kids thrive online
This Term 1 webinar in 2022 offers tips about how to support young people to socialise, learn and have fun online safely.
It explains how to access information, use technology safely and navigate new online platforms.
The presentation is designed for parents and carers of young people aged 5 to 12 years old
Due to current restrictions, there are limited events planned for the following two weeks. If any events are able to proceed, information will be provided via Compass.
- Kinder Rest Day - Wednesday 9th February
- Kinder Rest Day - Wednesday 16th February
Canteen - please update your child's class on Flexischools
As we have begun a new year with children moving classes this can create some confusion with the collection of lunch orders.
Please update your child's class on your flexischools account as soon as possible.
Thank you.
IMPORTANT: Students catching bus 53
If your child will be catching Transport Canberra bus route 53 after school, they may need to leave at 2:50pm and will therefore require parental permission.
Please notify the school via an email to the front office, including the days your child is expected to catch the bus.
IMPORTANT: Medical Conditions and Medications
We ask that all parents ensure the school has current medical information and necessary medications onsite for your child /children.
It is essential that we have the appropriate medication and action plans onsite should we need to administer first aid to your child during school hours.
Please note the following general information with regard to medical conditions and medication dispensing at school:
All medications need to:
- Be provided to the Front Office in their original packaging
- Include prescribing doctors contact details (if prescription medication)
- Include dispensing information (dosage instructions)
- Include signed “Request to Dispense Medication” form from parent (available from school website Communication Tab / Notes and Forms)
- Include any action plans signed by a doctor related to the child’s condition
Asthma
If your child has asthma, a relevant asthma plan or medical plan signed by a doctor and a signed “Request to Dispense Medication Form” must be provided to the school. Children who are able to administer their own asthma medication may keep their asthma puffer in their school bag, but must ensure they inform their teacher if they use the medication during the day. Children who require assistance administering their asthma medication are asked to leave their medication at the Front Office and alert their teacher should they require treatment. Teachers will then seek assistance from Front Office staff. All other forms of medication (including antihistamines) that need to be dispensed during the day must be under adult supervision.
If your child has Asthma you are required to:
- Send in a clearly labelled new Ventolin Puffer (or equivalent), including a spacer if not already provided, in its original packaging, including dosage instructions to the Front Office.
- If your child keeps their asthma medication (Ventolin puffer) in their school bag we ask that you check the expiry date of medication and replace them if necessary.
- Should your child also require antihistamines these also need to be supplied. Please ensure they are clearly labelled and include dosage instructions. Antihistamines are to be kept at the Front Office not in school bags.
- Provide any updated / revised action plans for your child to the school. Please include a current photo of your child on the plan.
Allergies / Anaphylaxis
Should your child have allergies or be anaphylactic, please ensure the school has up to date action plans, parent contact details and medication onsite to manage their condition.
If there are any changes (short or long term) to your child’s medical condition or medical needs please ensure the school is aware of the changes so we can provide the very best of care for your children.
If your child has Allergies / Anaphylaxis you are required to:
- Send in a clearly labelled, new Epipen (if required), in its original packaging, including dosage instructions to the Front Office.
- Should you child also require Ventolin or antihistamines these also need to be supplied in original packaging, including dosage instructions.
- If your child keeps their asthma medication in their school bag we ask that you check the expiry date of medication and replace them if necessary. Antihistamines are to be kept at the front office not in school bags.
- Provide any updated / revised action plans for your child to the school. Please include a current photo of your child on the plan.
Other Medications
If your child is unwell and needs to bring medication to school, we ask that you please ensure all medication and relevant instructions are provided to the Front Office. This includes a course of temporary medication i.e. antibiotics / pain medication etc. A signed “Request to Dispense Medication Form” will also be required.
Students requiring regular medication will need to provide the school with a medical plan signed by a doctor and a signed “Request to Dispense Medication Form”. Parents must ensure that an adequate supply of medication is supplied to the school in its original packaging with dosage instructions clearly labelled. Parents will be asked to sign the medication in and out as necessary.
Medications (with the exception of Asthma puffers where relevant) are not to be kept in children’s bags or administered without adult supervision.
All relevant forms are available on the schools website under the Communication Tab under Notes and Forms.
Should you have any questions regarding this email please contact the school. We appreciate your support with this matter.
We ask that all parents log in to the Parent Portal as soon as possible to verify details.
