Principals Report Week 8 Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
HARMONY WEEK in Schools - 2022 theme ‘Everyone Belongs’
This week we held Harmony Day at Rosary on Wednesday. Harmony Day, which is observed each year on or around March 21, celebrates diversity, aiming to foster inclusiveness, respect and the idea that people of all different cultures can make a valuable contribution to society. We all have something interesting and authentic to share and our society is stronger, richer and more interesting because of this.
Many of our students and staff wore splashes of orange on Wednesday. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
Australia is a vibrant and multicultural country — from the oldest continuous culture of our First Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are. It makes Australia a great place to live. An integrated multicultural Australia is an integral part of our national identity.
Year 3 level Liturgy
Today Year 3 students participated in a liturgy titled ‘Jesus our Friend, Teacher and Saviour’. The liturgy was held in our parish church within the COVID cohort model. Fr Mannes celebrated the liturgy and the Year 3 students read and contributed beautifully. The students were very reverent and listened carefully to the Gospel passage and reflection about Zacchaeus. Thank you to Ms McKerrow and Mrs Stiffle for their work with the Year 3 classes.
Playground Use After School Pick Up
Each day a number of families allow their children to have a short play on the school equipment or oval after they pick them up from the Quad/Peace Gates. The school supports this physical play and activity after school. However, in recent days I have had some concerns raised by parents about some unsafe play, words used and behaviour by children after school (not students in OSH care). I have spoken to these students about their behaviour and our expectations.
Parents are required to actively supervise their children’s play and interactions. The children need to play and behave in line with our school rules. They need to play safely and be respectful towards others.
No students should be playing after school in this area if their parents or carer has not picked them up and assumed responsibility for their supervision and care.
OSH Club do need to use the play equipment and grounds for their program from 3.45pm so I ask that you end your family play at this time.
Thank you for your support and diligence in supervising your child or children.
2023 Catholic Rosary School and Catholic Education Enrolments
Enrolments for Kindergarten to Year 6 places at Rosary School for 2023 (and all Catholic schools) will open on Monday 2 May through to Friday 27 May 2022. This is the official 4-week Catholic schools enrolment period. Please spread the word!
Information will be coming out soon about school open times and tours. I look forward to meeting prospective students and their families in the near future.
Year 6 Leadership Badge Presentation
Last Friday I had the pleasure of presenting all of our Year 6 students with their 2022 leadership badges. They were well prepared and enthusiastic about taking on the role of our school leaders this year. They made a pledge to learn and grow as leaders and make a special contribution to the life of the school and in serving others.
I have been very impressed with the way in which the Year 6 students have conducted themselves so far this year and applied themselves to their studies. I look forward to supporting them as they grow and develop even more through the experiences that being a Year 6 school leader provides. Good luck Year 6.
Week 10 - Rosary Parent Teacher Learning Conversations Online
Parent Teacher Learning Conversations will take place in Week 10 this term, on Monday 4 April and Tuesday 5 April. Due to the current ACT Government COVID Plan, all meetings must be conducted online (TEAMS in Catholic schools).

Farewell Mr Ederle
As per previous notice, we farewelled Mr Ederle this week. We wish him all the best in his retirement.
Wishing you all the best for the coming week.
God Bless.

As we start to catalogue the storm damage replacement books, we will be in desperate need of 'book covering' parents/grandparents who would be willing to take a bag of books home to cover for us. We will have nearly $8000 worth of novels in need of covering, so if you would like to help us, please contact the front office and I'll return your call. We are also happy for covering to happen in the upcoming school holidays if that suits people too!
Thank you in anticipation, Sandy and Jodie
