Principals Report Week 3 Term 2
Dear Parents and Friends,
In the Catholic faith tradition, the month of May is one of devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus. It is a good time to pray the Rosary and the Hail Mary and to share these special prayers as a family. At the scene of the Crucifixion, Jesus declared Mary to be our mother too. Let us always make her welcome in our hearts and homes.
Enrolment Forms
This is a reminder to all our parents with siblings who are of school age next year, to lodge enrolment forms at the front office as soon as possible. The enrolment period ends Friday 31st May. Information packs are available at the front office for your convenience.
NAPLAN
Students from Years 3 and 5 are sitting the national tests in Literacy and Numeracy skills this week. Please keep in mind that these tests are only one small measure of a student’s or a school’s success and provide a snapshot view of performance by a small percentage of the school’s students on a given day. Whilst NAPLAN results do provide teachers with valuable information, they need to be viewed in context – considering all the factors that come into play with regard to the assessment of the student. NAPLAN is by no means the only form of assessment used by the school to chart student progress and inform planning and programming. NAPLAN results are known later in the year when parents will receive a report detailing their child’s achievement against national and school performance levels.
Absences
Please either email the school or use the SZapp if your child is absent from school so that the school is informed as to your child’s whereabouts. These are the preferred methods as they are able to be recorded and recalled. A written and signed note is also acceptable. If your child rides or walks to school alone, or catches a bus for the first time, and you are concerned about whether they have arrived safely at school, we are more than happy for your child to come to the front office to phone and speak with you once they have arrived.
Mothers’ Day Stall
I hope that all the mothers in our community enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing Mothers’ Day on Sunday. Special thanks to the Year 1/2 parents who coordinated the stall for the children so that they could purchase a surprise gift for their mums. There was a great range of gifts and a lot of excitement. I sincerely hope that all the mums enjoyed their surprise gifts and that the children treated you with extra-special loving care on Sunday.
Bus Timetable Petition
A reminder that there is a petition requesting that the Assembly call on the ACT Government to reconsider the recent changes to the school bus timetables. If you would like to add your name to this petition it is being held at the Front Office. Before being submitted it will be added to the same petition being run in other Catholic Schools.
