Principals Report Week 10 Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers
Well done to everyone on their efforts in Term 1 2022. It has been wonderful to have a complete term face-to-face at school with our students. Thank you if you were able to attend a parent/teacher learning conversation this week with your child’s teacher. I hope this conversation was an opportunity to reflect on this term and also plan for what next in your child’s learning for term 2. If you ever have any concerns or questions about your child’s learning and development please contact your child’s teacher or the school.
Staff News
Thank you to Mr Brendan Drake, one of the classroom support assistants this term. Mr Drake is leaving us to take up a new type of role in Chaplaincy at St Monica’s Evatt.
Indonesian teaching will continue in Term 2. Mrs Jp Chilver remains on leave but Mrs Jacqui Ramesh will continue to teach the program at Rosary.
Family Baby News
Congratulations to Laura and Antony Dalle on the recent safe arrival of baby Harrison. Jackson (Year 4) and Cooper (Year 2) are very excited and enjoying time with their new baby brother! I bet they are spoiling him with love. I hope the family continues to enjoy this very special time.
Holy Week and Easter Celebrations
Our Holy Week Liturgies are set to take place at school this Friday. Year levels will present various stages of the Holy Week and Easter Story through scripture, drama and music. It is planned to be presented outside in a COVID safe way, weather permitting. Thank you to our Religious Education Coordinator Mrs Liz Higgins and the staff for their planning and preparation for this important time of the liturgical year and our lives.
Holy Week is most definitely a very sacred time of the year, for it is now that we will commemorate and remember the last week of Jesus' life on this earth.
The Lenten season of sacrifice and self-denial is about to come to an end, but this coming week is extremely important for all Christians. The greatest focus of the week is the Passion (suffering) and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the events that led up to it.
Pope Francis explains the significance of Holy Week and Easter:
On the evening of Holy Thursday, as we enter the Easter Triduum, we will commemorate the Last Supper. This is the evening when Christ left his disciples the testament of his love in the Eucharist, not as a remembrance, but as a memorial, as his everlasting presence. It is the evening in which he asks us to love one another by becoming servants to one another, as he did in washing the disciples' feet.
Good Friday is the day of penance, fasting and prayer. Adoring the Cross, we will relive the journey of the innocent Lamb sacrificed for our salvation. We will carry in our minds and hearts the sufferings of the sick, the poor, the rejected of this world. Before the image of the crucified God, we will bring, in prayer, the many, the too many who are crucified in our time, who only from Him can receive comfort and meaning in their suffering. Now, in the hour of his supreme Sacrifice on the cross, he brings to fulfilment the task entrusted to him by the Father: he enters into the abyss of suffering, he enters into these disasters of this world, to redeem and transform. And thanks to him, abandoned on the cross, no one will ever again be alone in the darkness of death. Never, he is always beside us: we need only open our heart and let ourselves be looked upon by him.
Holy Saturday is the day of silence, lived by the first disciples in mourning and bewilderment, shocked by Jesus’ ignominious death. While the Word is silent, while Life is in the tomb, those who had hoped in him were put to a difficult test, they feel like orphans, perhaps even orphaned by God. This Saturday is also Mary's day: she too lived it in tears, but her heart was full of faith, full of hope, full of love. The Mother of Jesus had followed her Son along the path of sorrows and remained at the foot of the cross, with her soul pierced. But when it all seemed to be over, she kept watch, she kept vigil, in expectation, maintaining her hope in the promise of God who raises the dead. Thus, in the world’s darkest hour, she became the Mother of believers, the Mother of the Church and sign of hope. Her witness and her intercession sustain us when the weight of the cross becomes too heavy for each one of us.
In the darkness of Holy Saturday, joy and light will break through with the rites of the Easter Vigil and, in the late evening, the festive singing of the Alleluia. It will be an encounter in faith with the Risen Christ, and the joy of Easter will continue throughout the following fifty days, until the coming of the Holy Spirit. He who was crucified is risen! All questions and uncertainties, hesitations and fears are dispelled by this revelation.
The Risen One gives us the certainty that good always triumphs over evil, that life always conquers death, and it is not our end to descend lower and lower, from sorrow to sorrow, but rather to rise up high. The Risen One is the confirmation that Jesus is right in everything: in promising us life beyond death and forgiveness beyond sins. The disciples doubted, they did not believe. The first to believe and to see was Mary Magdalene; she was the apostle of the resurrection who went to announce that she had seen Jesus, who had called her by name. And then, all the disciples saw him.
Dear brothers and sisters, again this year we will live the Easter celebrations in the context of the pandemic. In many situations of suffering, especially when they are borne by people, families and populations already tried by poverty, disasters or conflicts, Christ’s Cross is like a beacon that indicates the port to ships that are still afloat on stormy seas. Christ’s Cross is a sign of the hope that does not disappoint; and it tells us that not even one tear, not one sigh is lost in God’s plan.
Pope Francis, Holy Week Homily, March 31 2021.

Rosary Community Council Update Term 1
The Rosary Community Council met on Wednesday 16 March and finalised the positions for 2022. I am pleased to be elected as Chair of the Community Council and look forward to a busy year head. Congratulations to all members of Council, it will be great to work with you all.
By way of background my three children attended Rosary starting in 1989 and finishing in 2000 then attending Daramalan College. I was involved during these years in the classroom with providing reading assistance, in the tuckshop (as it was referred to then), on the Parents & Friends (P&F) and also a member of the inaugural Rosary School Board. I joined the Council in 2021. My granddaughter is now in Year 5 at Rosary and I have another granddaughter who will join the Rosary family at school in 2027.
At our last meeting we covered a very full agenda with some carry over items from 2021. Reports were received from the Parish, Principal and Teacher’s Representative providing updates of activities and future plans. The school’s annual budget was finalised with Vicky van der Sanden (many thanks) providing responses to some enquiries that arose last year. The final budget was presented by Greg Walker before being ratified by Council. We also discussed and accepted a Fundraising Plan for 2022 based on activities of 2021 and subject to COVID restrictions.
There was a workshop on a grant application the Council will develop for funds from ICON Water for further work on the school oval. Some of you may recall the ActewAGL GrassRoots program that Rosary participated in many years ago. This program was to trial various grass and irrigation types to determine what was best suited to the environment and usage of the space. The grant application will be for weeding and seeding of the oval and replacement of some of the irrigation system. This work is required to provide a more uniform grass type and also to replace the drip irrigation section of the oval with a pop-up system similar to the rest of the oval.
Finally meeting dates were set for 2022 and we will be holding an OPEN meeting for members of the Rosary Community to attend in Term 2. Hopefully this meeting will be in person, fingers crossed. More information will be provided soon.
If you wish to contact Council members, membership is listed on the website at https://www.rosary.act.edu.au/Rosary-Community-Council, please email at rosarycouncil@gmail.com
