Principals Report Week 4 Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers
2023 Catholic Schools Enrolment Period
The current 2023 Catholic Schools Enrolment Period is well underway. We have had 3 successful open sessions for prospective parents and children to visit the school. It is lovely to showcase Rosary School.
There is another formal open morning planned for:
9am - 11.00am next Tuesday 24 May.
It is particularly important for parents and carers enrolling students for Kindergarten 2023, including those with siblings already at the school, to lodge their enrolment before FRIDAY 27 May 2022. This is the end of the official enrolment period and numbers will be reviewed and processed. Offers for places for 2023 will be made by Friday 24 June (Week 9 this term).
Families are also welcome to visit the school or contact us if you wish to enrol your child in any year level from Kindergarten to Year 6 in 2022 or 2023.
For more information, please contact the school office on 62480010 or email us at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Enrolment details and forms can also be found on our website at www.rosary.act.edu.au
We are incredibly proud of our school community and what we are able to offer our students. Our faith and values are woven into the curriculum and school-life. We work hard to develop the social and emotional wellbeing of our students’, as well as their academic abilities. We focus on providing new and exciting opportunities for students to keep them engaged and growing.
I would like to thank-you personally for all your support and the contribution you make to helping make our school such a positive environment. I would appreciate it if you could help support us by getting the word out about our school and the enrolment period. Your satisfaction and word of mouth is such an important part of our sharing the good news. Thank you.
Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Annual School Community Surveys
Separate 2022 Tell Them From Me surveys will be distributed to parents, staff and students in Years 4-6 from next Monday 23 May Week 5. The same survey is distributed to members of all Catholic Schools in our archdiocese, providing information to make Rosary an even better school and our system overall. The survey window is open from:
Monday 23 May until Friday 10 June (Term 2, Week 8).
Next week you will receive an individual username and password for your response to the survey. It is provided for a one-off, confidential way to respond.
I encourage all parents and carers to complete the survey and share your thoughts on:
- The things you are proud of at Rosary School and the things we are doing well.
- The things we could do better or improve at Rosary School.
There are a number of questions across a broad range of schooling, education, community and well being domains. As the new principal at Rosary in 2022 I am really interested in your thoughts, insights and ideas so that the feedback can help shape the school now and into the future.
You will also receive a form inviting your child to participate in the survey but you also have the option for your child to opt out from completing the survey. More information will follow next week.
Catalyst and High Impact Teaching Practice Continue
This term our staff have again been working with our CATALYST coach on implementing high impact teaching strategies in every classroom. The mantra of the CATALYST initiative is to transform students' lives through learning. Our high impact teaching strategies consist of daily reviews of essential content and skills students need to understand and retain knowledge. Through regular practice and engagement in learning students are moving information learned from their working memory into their long term memory. Teachers and support staff regularly check in with students and monitor their understanding so they can plan and demonstrate learning in differentiated ways.
Teachers are now working with our coach about the science of learning and how explicit teaching benefits students’ acquisition of knowledge and comprehension. Clear, structured approaches to teaching both English and Mathematics are the current focus.
Our staff are working collaboratively to support each other, plan together, share resources and experiences and provide open feedback. We have also looked at the characteristics of successful learners and the language used to promote inviting and exciting learning environments. This includes the behaviour expected of students to engage best in learning and be successful.
Teachers are also undertaking associated professional learning in recommended curriculum initiatives including Sounds Write K-2 and yrs 3-4 programs, The Writing Revolution and Mathematics.
Here are some recent photos of teachers presenting lessons for feedback from their peers and our coach.
I wish you all the very best for the week ahead. God Bless and take care.
Regards
Greg walker
Principal

Rosary Community Council Update
OPEN MEETING - ROSARY COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Here is a great opportunity to come along and meet Council members (if you don’t already know them), understand the role the Council plays in the school community, join in the discussion and ask questions. And we look forward to welcoming you too.
You are warmly invited to attend this OPEN meeting to be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday 1 June in the School Library. Please advise if you are intending to come along so we can manage numbers and catering.
Please respond via the Council email address: rosarycouncil@gmail.com
SCHOOL UNIFORM CLOTHING POOL
We are looking for some wonderful volunteers who would be available on a weekly or fortnightly basis to help maintain the clothing pool. This service provides parents options when looking for uniform supplies and promotes one of the Rs of sustainability - REUSE. It doesn’t take long, just a small amount of time to keep the area tidy and to sort and put clothing donations into sizes etc so parents can easily find what they need. If you are able to assist please let us know through the Council email address: rosarycouncil@gmail.com
COVID19 - Please Report all Household Cases to the School
If a member of your family contracts Covid or if a student who attends the school tests positive, we ask that you please advise the school via phone or email.
Should a student be absent for either reason we also ask that you complete a COMPASS absence notification for the time the student will be away.
We appreciate your assistance with keeping our comunity safe.
Thank you
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
