Principals Report Week 6 Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers
Athlete’s Foot and Rosary School Partnership
Last week I met with a representative of Athlete’s Foot who presented the school with a monetary donation of $750 for the loyal support of customers buying shoes at their shop. Our closest Athlete’s Foot shop is in Civic and they made the donation to Rosary. There are alternate shops at Woden and Tuggeranong also providing a donation back to our school if you nominate Rosary as the benefactor when you make a purchase. The Belconnen store is not part of this scheme for our school.
Please consider shopping at Athlete’s Foot if you are looking for quality footwear and don’t forget to mention Rosary at the register!
You are reminded that next Friday 10 June is the second pupil free day provided this term to teachers and staff at Rosary Primary by Catholic Education. On this day staff will be at school. The staff will be involved in a Literacy workshop in the morning before using their administration time to focus on tasks like moderating their student assessment and grading students for their Semester One Reports.
Again, I assure you that the Rosary staff are very grateful for this extra time which does relieve some of the workload pressure they experience.
Semester One Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
Parents and carers will receive their child’s Semester One Report on Wednesday 22 June, Week 9, with parent/carer teacher meetings to be held in Week 10 this term. The reports this semester will again have no general comment or subject comments. This is a decision the school came to in consultation with other Catholic schools in our region and Catholic Education. Written comments on reports in our system remain optional for schools. Staff would like to spend as much time as possible on reviewing student work and planning for meeting the needs of their students. They would also like to place greater emphasis on the conversation they have with parents/carers in an interview rather than a written comment at this point.
In the Semester One Reports students will be assessed against specific criteria for subjects and strands and receive overall grades for their academic work. There have been some changes to the wording and criteria used in some areas of the report which I believe make the reports more relevant and easier to interpret.
Tell Them From Me Survey
A reminder again that the 2022 Tell Them From Me surveys are now live and can be completed by parents and carers. To allow a level of security around the access to the survey, a message with the login details was sent to our community internally via COMPASS last week.
The same parent/carer survey is distributed to members of all Catholic Schools in our archdiocese. Our survey results provide information to make Rosary an even better school.
The survey window is only open until next Friday 10 June (Term 2, Week 7).
I encourage all parents and carers to complete the survey and share your thoughts on:
- The things you are proud of about Rosary School and the things we are doing well.
- The things we could do better or improve at Rosary School.
There are a number of questions across a broad range of schooling, education, community and well being domains. As the new principal at Rosary in 2022 I am really interested in your thoughts, insights and ideas so that the feedback can help shape the school now and into the future. I encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the survey.
Students in Years 4-6 will undertake their survey soon but you do have the option for your child to opt out from completing the survey. A note went to you via COMPASS about this option.
Morning Assemblies Going Well
This term we have been holding our morning assemblies outside together. It has been nice to greet the students each morning and celebrate birthdays, events and awards. Just recently we also began singing the national anthem together on Mondays, thanks to the vocals and guitar playing by Mr O’Brien.
2023 Kindergarten Enrolments
I remind parents and carers enrolling students for Kindergarten 2023, including those with siblings already at the school, to lodge their enrolment online as soon as possible. Sibling enrolments are really important to know, as well as attracting new families and students to Rosary.
We have had some successful open sessions for prospective parents and children to visit the school. However, we are still seeking more Kindergarten enrolments so we have added some additional times the school is open for tours and discussions about what Rosary School offers.
Our new sessions:
Open Morning: 9.00am - 11.00am Tuesday 7 June
It is lovely to continue to showcase Rosary School to members of the community. Families are welcome to visit the school or contact us if you wish to enrol your child.
For more information, please contact the school office on 62480010 or email us at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Enrolment details and forms can also be found on our website at www.rosary.act.edu.au
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless
Greg Walker
Principal

ENROLMENT REMINDER - Help Us Spread the Word!
A reminder that Rosary Primary School is enrolling now for 2023.
It is particularly important for parents and carers enrolling students for Kindergarten 2023, including those with siblings already at the school, to lodge their enrolment before FRIDAY 27 May 2022. This is the end of the official enrolment period and numbers will be reviewed and processed. Offers for places for 2023 will be made by Friday 24 June (Week 9 this term).
Families are also welcome to visit the school or contact us if you wish to enrol your child in any year level from Kindergarten to Year 6 in 2022 or 2023.
For more information, please contact the school office on 62480010 or email us at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Enrolment details and forms can also be found on our website at www.rosary.act.edu.au
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
IMPORTANT COVID19 REMINDER - Report all Household Cases to the School
If a member of your family contracts Covid or if a student who attends the school tests positive, we ask that you please advise the school via phone or email.
Should a student be absent for either reason we also ask that you complete a COMPASS absence notification for the time the student will be away.
A reminder that if students are experiencing symptoms or are unwell please keep them at home, even if they have tested negative for Covid.
We appreciate your assistance with keeping our comunity safe.
Thank you
