Principals Report Week 7 Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers
2023 Kindergarten Enrolments
I remind parents and carers enrolling students for Kindergarten 2023, including those with siblings already at the school, to lodge their enrolment online as soon as possible. Sibling enrolments are really important to know, as well as attracting new families and students to Rosary.
We have had some successful open sessions for prospective parents and children to visit the school. However, we are still seeking more Kindergarten enrolments so we have added some additional times the school is open for tours and discussions about what Rosary School offers.
Our new sessions:
Open Afternoon: Wednesday 15 June 3.30 - 4.30pm
Open Morning: Friday 17 June 9.00am - 11.00am
It is lovely to continue to showcase Rosary School to members of the community. Families are welcome to visit the school or contact us if you wish to enrol your child.
For more information, please contact the school office on 62480010 or email us at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Enrolment details and forms can also be found on our website at www.rosary.act.edu.au
Tell Them From Me Survey - Link to be provided
A reminder again that the 2022 Tell Them From Me surveys are now live and can be completed by parents and carers. To allow a level of security around the access to the survey, a message with the login details was sent to our community internally via COMPASS last week.
The same parent/carer survey is distributed to members of all Catholic Schools in our archdiocese. Our survey results provide information to make Rosary an even better school.
The survey window is only open until this Friday 10 June (Term 2, Week 7).
I encourage all parents and carers to complete the survey and share your thoughts on:
- The things you are proud of about Rosary School and the things we are doing well.
- The things we could do better or improve at Rosary School.
There are a number of questions across a broad range of schooling, education, community and well being domains. As the new principal at Rosary in 2022 I am really interested in your thoughts, insights and ideas so that the feedback can help shape the school now and into the future. I encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the survey.
Students in Years 4-6 will undertake their survey soon but you do have the option for your child to opt out from completing the survey. A note went to you via COMPASS about this option.
Cross Country Success
Well done to our cross country squad members who competed at Stromlo last Friday. Students tested their fitness and endurance by racing the top 5 students from all of the schools in the North Gungahlin region. The conditions were cold and blustery but their efforts were admirable.
Congratulations to the following students on their individual results:
- Audrey Goldsworthy - 1st in 12 Year Girls
- James Stein - 5th place in 10 Year Girls
- Raf Thompson - 2nd place in 9 Year Boys
- Aidan Honer - 10th place in 9 Year Boys
- Samara Mackay - 9th place in 8 Year Girls
These students are expected to race at the ACT Cross Country carnival coming up soon.
Matt Giteau Rugby Union Finals Day
Good luck to players in the Year 3/4 rugby union team who will compete in the Matt Giteau Rugby Finals Day this Friday. They played well a few weeks ago in the round matches to earn their place against the best teams in the A.C.T. We hope they play well and enjoy the day.
Semester One Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews

ENROLMENT REMINDER - Help Us Spread the Word!
A reminder that Rosary Primary School is enrolling now for 2023.
It is particularly important for parents and carers enrolling students for Kindergarten 2023, including those with siblings already at the school, to lodge their enrolment before FRIDAY 27 May 2022. This is the end of the official enrolment period and numbers will be reviewed and processed. Offers for places for 2023 will be made by Friday 24 June (Week 9 this term).
Families are also welcome to visit the school or contact us if you wish to enrol your child in any year level from Kindergarten to Year 6 in 2022 or 2023.
For more information, please contact the school office on 62480010 or email us at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Enrolment details and forms can also be found on our website at www.rosary.act.edu.au
We held our Open Council Meeting last Wednesday 1 June and we would like to thank those parents who braved the cold winter conditions to join us. The meeting provided an overview of what the Council is responsible for, what it does, financial reporting and where we are now with fundraising activities going forward this year (more on fundraising events as these get closer).
The Teacher’s and Principal’s reports in particular provided for some great conversation - an update on Enrolments, given this is the official enrolment for 2023 period, was provided and that our current numbers are 336 students. Some discussion took place around those numbers and how they effect teacher numbers, classroom sizes and the maintenance of year specific classes. It was noted Rosary has the potential to grow to some degree in numbers without losing the smaller school reputation we currently enjoy.
It was great to hear that school liturgies are taking place again and parents and friends can now also attend. Fr Mannes had visited Year 5 last week in preparation for their liturgy and he aims to visit each year prior to their liturgies. And Wakakirri is underway with Year 5 students beginning their preparations for this performance in term 3 themed around RISE.
We spent some time discussing teacher workload and what support is available. There is much media at present around teacher retention and also the attraction of future teachers to University studies. Impacts on teaching staff at Rosary was discussed in terms of how staff wellbeing is monitored and supported and also the ability to attract casual teachers if required. Some of our part time teachers extend their availability to cover where possible.
An update on the School Oval upgrade project was provided and we are continuing to seek funding support. This is a major project and one that has to be undertaken during the right season for the best results. It will also obviously affect the availability of this space whilst the project progresses. One of our parents who attended the meeting had some ideas on potential grant opportunities and has offered to provide some detail for which we are most grateful. We also talked about the Junior Playground project and getting quotes for these works.
Finally we discussed Council membership and we will be calling for nominations in the next couple of weeks. People come and go from Council membership for various reasons such as their children leave Rosary, their 2 year term comes to an end etc and new blood is a good thing. If in the meantime anyone is interested in finding out more about the Council please do not hesitate to contact us.
Many thanks to the two wonderful parents who put their hands up and volunteered to manage the Clothing Pool – well done.
Please remember the Council contact email is rosarycouncil@gmail.com
Library News - Lego Club Returns Term 3!
As we head into the last three weeks of term we would very much like to thank our band of fabulous parents/grandparents who have been busy covering hundreds of new books, replacements for the ones ruined in the storm last November. We still have bags of books for anyone who could help us out with covering-even over the school holidays. Please advise us directly or through the front office.
Next term, we are re-starting a lunchtime Lego Club. A purpose built Lego table/storage system has been ordered but we are still in need of any Lego that could be donated for our students’ use. Thank you everyone!
