Principals Report Week 9 Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers
Prayers Please
Please keep our current Indonesian Teacher Jacqui Ramesh in your prayers and thoughts. Jacqui’s mother passed away recently in Singapore after a short battle with cancer. Jacqui has travelled to Singapore to be with her family for the funeral. This is a sad and difficult time for Jacqui and her family. We look forward to Jacqui returning to continue teaching next term.
Semester One Student Reports Available Today in COMPASS
This afternoon your child’s Semester One Report was made available in the COMPASS portal for you to view. This report will have assessment on your child’s Engagement with Learning and also the Key Learning Areas of the curriculum.
As you are aware, there are no comments included in this report card. However we are offering parent/teacher interviews next week on Monday and Tuesday. These interviews have been extended to 15 minutes each to allow for a good discussion about your child’s progress.
During the meeting our teachers are open to discussing any aspect of your child’s education. There will be a focus on the learning behaviours and academic areas that your child has shown growth, as well as areas of the curriculum and learning behaviours identified as areas for further growth and improvement. It is also important to discuss what is needed next to enhance your child’s learning and collaboratively identify some goals for your child to achieve in Semester Two.
Please see the information in the messages in our COMPASS portal on how to make a parent teacher booking. Be aware that online bookings are live now but do close on Friday afternoon this week.
Stop Work Industrial Action called on Thursday 30 June (next week)
Today a message was sent to you via COMPASS from Catholic Education Director Mr Ross Fox confirming that the Independent Education Union (IEU) and its members have called a second full day of Stop Work Industrial Action, this time scheduled for next Thursday 30 June. Again, I will need to ask you to let the school office know if your child needs to attend school on this day and I will then determine whether we will have the available staff to accommodate these students at school. I will advise you formally of the plan for 30 June - on Tuesday 28 June.
Pupil Free Day - Monday 13 June
Thank you for the ways in which you continue to show support for our school staff and teachers. Your words of encouragement in various forms or simple gestures have been well received by staff. For example, a number of parents and carers donated morning tea for our staff on our recent pupil free day in Week 8. This was a lovely surprise to our staff - we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU for thinking of us! I promise the staff went back to work on time after their morning tea!
Kindergarten Zoo Excursion and Year 4 National Museum Excursion
This week some of our students have been fortunate to be able to attend excursions. Kindergarten attended the National Zoo and Aquarium on Monday and had a great time seeing and feeding animals in their respective habitats. Year 4 attended the National Museum of Australia on Tuesday and viewed the Songlines from Australia’s First Peoples in a spectacular immersive experience. It was a journey through Indigenous art and culture in Connection, a breathtaking new digital experience in its world premiere, produced by the makers of the recent Van Gogh Alive exhibition. Students had a great time linking their learning in classrooms with the activities and information available at both sites.
Athletics Carnival is on next Friday 1 July - Parents Welcome
Our Athletics carnival is next Friday 1 July and is still going ahead on the last day of term. Our students are excited about the opportunity to take part in a range of athletics and field events in a round robin format. Thank you to Mrs Godfrey and the Athletics Carnival Committee for all of their hard work in organising the day. Thank you to Melissa for setting up a canteen at the carnival for this day.
Parents are welcome to attend this event at DICKSON playing fields.
Fun in the sun!
I am pleased to report that we have had some nicer weather during the past week and the Kindergarten and Year 1 students have been having a lot of fun playing in the autumn leaves that have dropped late in the season! Lots of colour still around Rosary!
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless
Greg Walker

A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
