Principals Report Week 1 Term 3
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome back to school and the start of Term 3! It was lovely to see all the children back at school full of enthusiasm and ready to start. I do hope that you managed to have some special family time during the holidays. We’ve had a very settled start to the term and we welcome the new families – Yangden, Erba, Armstrong, Giorgi-Warr, Singline, Forrester, Javkhlan, Davidovic, Muller, Lhazom, Akeroyd-Smith, Forrester – who have just joined us. We hope they will enjoy many happy years of association with Rosary School.
Confirmation
Please keep the students who will be making the Sacrament of Confirmation this term in your prayers. The Formation Evening will take place tomorrow at 5.30pm in Rosary Church. We ask attendees to space themselves around the church and encourage participants to wear masks.
Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Compass ‘Parent Portal’. This should be completed within seven days of the absence.
COVID
As many of you are aware, the COVID situation is impacting on all sectors, including education. Yesterday a note was sent to families from the CE Director, Ross Fox, noting that increasing COVID-19 and influenza infections may impact school operations during Term 3. Last term we were fortunate to manage staffing so that we did not have to have any closures due to staff illness. While we hope this will be the same this term, if it does occur, we will notify families via COMPASS.
Due to the increasing case numbers and advice from CE there will be some changes to the school’s operation and visitors onsite.
- We will continue with dismissal for all students at 3:10pm. Teachers will bring their classes to the quad for dismissal. We ask adults to physically distance and leave promptly once you have collected your child.
- We will be stopping parent helpers in the classroom until further notice.
- Events such as assemblies and grade masses will be student only.
- Please do not send your child to school if they show any symptoms of illness.
I thank you for your attention to these important matters and for your cooperation in ensuring that our community remains a healthy and safe place for all.
Condolences
Sincere condolences are extended to the Lonsdale family (Archie KP and Hunter 1V) whose Pa, Peter Sherman passed away in recent days.
May Peter rest now in eternal peace and may his family be comforted and strengthened by the grace of God during this sad and difficult time.
Kind regards
John O'Brien
Acting Principal

Each year, in term three, we have a strong Australian Childrens' literature and arts focus in our programs for K-6 during Library lessons. This links directly to the Australian Curriculum and Childrens Book Council of Australia through the use of the 2022 Shortlisted picture books. Additionally, Bookweek is celebrated August 22-25 (week 6) here at Rosary and around Australia. We will be having our annual Scholastic Bookfair during that week with books being able to be purchased by our students. A highlight of the weeklong celebration is our 'Dress-up as a Character from a Book' parade. Each child and staff member are encouraged to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book. We want to give you all time to think about and plan for this, especially as each child needs to bring the book with them to share with their peers. More about that in the newsletters to come!
