Principals Report Week 2 Term 3
Dear Parents and Friends,
Floriade 2022 – Garden Beds
Last Friday, our Year 6 students joined Andrew Liso (Edglit) to prepare our garden beds for the forthcoming 'Sounds of Spring' Floriade 2022. The students planted Purple Blotch and Dynamic Marine Pansies to compliment the earlier planted Pink Impression Tulips. Our Year 6 students will be responsible for the ongoing nurturing and attention to the growth of these beautiful flowers in order for them to 'sing' in full bloom during the Floriade season. Please be sure to stop by and look at the garden beds. The garden boxes even light up at night! One is located on Higinbotham St to the left of the drive way into the courts and the other is at the top of the driveway into the front of our school (Fleming St.).
An enormous thank you to Andrew Liso from Edglit for submitting the successful application to the ACT Government on behalf of Rosary. The Floriade programme provides our students an opportunity to become part of a gardening community and hopefully fosters a lifelong interest in growing and maintaining our natural environment. Andrew also donated the innovative garden boxes that light up at night, so the flowers can be seen at any time, and a trowel for each student to support their budding interest in gardening and tending to our natural environment.
Car Park Safety
Drivers, please be aware that parking is not permitted along any red kerb on school grounds. I have noticed several cars parking in these locations and this prevents the safe flow of traffic in and out of the car park. The courts space has been measured and marked by traffic experts to account for vehicles turning and entering/exiting the parking bays to allow for safe passing.
Please be aware that the speed limit in the car park is 5k/ph. If you do not plan to accompany your child into the school quad in the morning, please use the drop off zone. The purpose of the drop off zone is to allow students to alight safely from vehicles directly onto school grounds without having to cross the car park. In the afternoon, the drop off zone is not in use as it impedes pedestrian safety as parents and students make their way to parked vehicles on the asphalt.
Students who leave vehicles which are parked in marked bays need to be accompanied across the car park by an adult to enter through the gates to the supervised space in the morning. Likewise, when parents park in marked bays in the afternoon, students need to be collected from inside the quad and accompanied by an adult to the vehicle.
I ask all drivers to be mindful of the car park rules and to adhere to them on every occasion for the safety of the children and all others in our community. Please take note of the sign which is located on either side of the entry to the courts and which I have copied for you here. There is also a stop sign at the exit gate to remind drivers to stop and look out for persons who may be crossing there.
I ask that parents move vehicles from the courts as soon as possible in the mornings so that the space can be used for classes who are conducting sports and fitness sessions. Should you need to stay that little bit longer, please park in the gravel bay alongside the junior classrooms on Higginbotham Street.
Athletics Carnival
As you are aware, the athletics carnival was cancelled due to wet weather at the end of last term. Due to ongoing COVID restrictions the carnival cannot now go ahead in its usual format. Over the next few weeks, we will be holding events during school time to give students the opportunity to participate and qualify for PSSA.
Condolences
Sincere condolences are extended to the Abbondante and Rinaudo families (Christian & Charlie, 6L; former students, Sebastian Abbondante & Sam Rinaudo) whose Nonno, Carmelo Abbondante passed away in recent days.
May Carmelo rest now in eternal peace and may his family be comforted and strengthened by the grace of God during this sad and difficult time.
Kind regards
John O'Brien
Acting Principal

WOMEN’S FAITH CIRCLE
Holy Rosary Parish is hosting an online Women's Faith Circle starting Thursday 11 August @ 8pm. The Circle is an initiative to help connect women from the Holy Rosary Parish and School communities. At a Women's Faith Circle, members gather fortnightly for a time of meditation, reflection, and group discussion.
Three Reasons to join a Women's Faith Circle:
- COMMUNITY: Meet people and reconnect outside of Sunday services.
- CELEBRATION: Rejoice with each other through all seasons of life. We are not alone in our struggles. We know that when women come together, great things happen!
- CONVERSATION: Share the journey of life and pray together.
If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, please email Emily at emilykathrynhall@gmail.com. for further information.
Peace and best wishes

Late Student Arrivals / Early Student Departures
Your assistance with this important matter is greatly appreciated.
Bookweek is celebrated August 22-25 (week 6) here at Rosary and around Australia. This is only four weeks away!!!!
We will be having our annual Scholastic Bookfair during that week with books being able to be purchased by our students & families. A highlight of the weeklong celebration is our 'Dress-up as a Character from a Book' parade. Each child and staff member are encouraged to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book. We want to give you all time to think about and plan for this, especially as each child needs to bring the book with them to share with their peers. We are here to help source books/ideas so please reach out if you need assistance!
More about that in the newsletters to come!

Community Council - Positions Vacant
Rosary Community Council is looking for new members.
The Council provides the opportunity for members of the school, parish and Archdiocesan communities to support the mission of Catholic education in the school. Working with the Pastor, Principal and staff, Council members provide leadership to the school community. Meetings are held on the 2nd and 7th weeks of each term (Wednesday) and membership is for a period of 2 years. We are looking for up to 3 new members and also have the position of Secretary available for someone who is interested and/or has specific related skills in this area.
If you are interested in membership or which to discuss the possibilities further please email to rosarycouncil@gmail.com for more detail and a nomination form. We look forward to hearing from you.
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
IMPORTANT COVID19 REMINDER - Report all Household Cases to the School
If a member of your family contracts Covid or if a student who attends the school tests positive, we ask that you please advise the school via phone or email.
Should a student be absent for either reason we also ask that you complete a COMPASS absence notification for the time the student will be away.
A reminder that if students are experiencing symptoms or are unwell please keep them at home, even if they have tested negative for Covid.
We appreciate your assistance with keeping our comunity safe.
Thank you
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
