Principals Report Week 4 Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers
Prayers Please
Please keep Mrs Liz Higgins in your prayers. Sadly, Mrs Higgins' father passed away last weekend. Mrs Higgins' daughter also had a beautiful baby girl this week so it has been a time of mixed emotions. Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with Mrs Higgins and her family at this time.
Living and Working in a World with COVID
This week we mark 12 months since the start of the 2021 lockdown in ACT when cases of the DELTA virus were detected. We still find ourselves living and working with COVID restrictions but going about our daily routines as best we can. It is good that Rosary has been able to continue face-to-face teaching all of 2022.
Although schools are being cautious again about extra school activities and events in Term 3 I am pleased to say that some events at Rosary are going ahead in coming weeks. These include:
- Kenny Koala visit to Infants classes today (Friday)
- Footsteps Dance Program for all students on Fridays
- Basketball Coaching Clinics for all students (except Year 5 due to Wakakirri focus)
- Athletics Carnival Events - have been run at school. (A representative squad will be picked from these events to participate in the upcoming PSSA carnival)
- Class liturgies/masses and school masses
- Sacrament of Confirmation (Year 6)
- School Assemblies (with our students only)
Rosary will continue to focus on ensuring every class is covered at times of staff absence and balancing this need with the opportunity for extra curricular activities.
Whole School Mass - Feast of the Assumption
On Monday 15 August the Church celebrates the Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Lady. We will celebrate mass together on Monday with the students and staff. According to Catholic faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.
The Assumption signals the end of Mary’s earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. While the bodies of both Jesus and Mary are now in heaven, there is a difference between the Assumption and the Resurrection. Where Jesus arose from the tomb and ascended into heaven by his own power, Mary’s body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son.
For this reason we use different words to describe each event. One is the Ascension of Christ and the other, the Assumption of Mary.
100 DAYS of KINDER 2022
Congratulations to our Kindergarten students who reached the milestone of 100 days of school earlier this week! This is a wonderful achievement. They are learning so much and developing well. These students bring so much to the school with their different interests and personalities and we love watching them grow. Before we know it they will be in Year 1! Well done to Mrs Watson and Mr Read on their great work with their classes.
Wakakirri Finals
We have just received the fantastic news that our Year 5 students have been selected by the judges to perform in the 2022 ACT Wakakirri Showcase Evening on Thursday 8 September. Their performance last week was spectacular and such an amazing moment for all of the students and staff involved. Now the journey continues and they get to rehearse and perform again. What a great honour. Well done!
God Bless
Greg Walker
Principal

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY FEAST DAY
Next Monday, 15 August @ 10am, we will be participating in a Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. Outside of regular Sunday Masses, Christmas and the Assumption are Holy Days of Obligation. Due to our Covid measures, this Mass will be a student only event.
Holy Rosary Church will have a special Mass for all parishioners at 6pm.
WOMEN’S FAITH CIRCLE
Holy Rosary Parish is hosting an online Women's Faith Circle starting Thursday 11 August @ 8pm. The Circle is an initiative to help connect women from the Holy Rosary Parish and School communities. At a Women's Faith Circle, members gather fortnightly for a time of meditation, reflection, and group discussion.
Three Reasons to join a Women's Faith Circle:
- COMMUNITY: Meet people and reconnect outside of Sunday services.
- CELEBRATION: Rejoice with each other through all seasons of life. We are not alone in our struggles. We know that when women come together, great things happen!
- CONVERSATION: Share the journey of life and pray together.
If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, please email Emily at emilykathrynhall@gmail.com. for further information.
Peace and best wishes
Liz Higgins
Religious Education Coordinator

With Bookweek only 11 days away, please be mindful of supporting your child in their 'dress-up' or costume choice for Monday, August 22!!!! All students need to bring the book that their 'character' comes from to share during the day. Jodie and I are very happy to assist with any book selections or queries from students or parents. Many students are telling us of their excitement that this special, once a year highlight provides. The Scholastic Bookfair will be set-up in the Library from Aug 22-25 but more about that next week.
Late Student Arrivals / Early Student Departures
Your assistance with this important matter is greatly appreciated.
Community Council - Positions Vacant
Rosary Community Council is looking for new members.
The Council provides the opportunity for members of the school, parish and Archdiocesan communities to support the mission of Catholic education in the school. We are looking for up to 3 new members and also have the position of Secretary available for someone who is interested and/or has specific related skills in this area.
If you are interested in membership or which to discuss the possibilities further please email to rosarycouncil@gmail.com for more detail and a nomination form. We look forward to hearing from you.
IMPORTANT COVID19 REMINDER - Report all Household Cases to the School
If a member of your family contracts Covid or if a student who attends the school tests positive, we ask that you please advise the school via phone or email.
Should a student be absent for either reason we also ask that you complete a COMPASS absence notification for the time the student will be away.
A reminder that if students are experiencing symptoms or are unwell please keep them at home, even if they have tested negative for Covid.

A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
