Principals Report Week 7 Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers
Happy Father’s Day
On behalf of the Rosary School community I would like to wish a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all of our dads, grandfathers, parents, carers and key adults in our student’s lives. There is no doubt that you all play a vital role in the lives of your children. I hope you have some quality family time together this weekend.
Winter Sport Success
Most competition games have come to an end so I would like to congratulate all of our Rosary Netball and Rosary Rugby teams on a very rewarding and successful 2022 winter season! We are proud of the way you have played and developed your skills and teamwork. How lucky the Rosary Community is to have two very successful clubs supporting our students in their chosen sport.
Good luck to the teams in both sports that have made it through to the next week of FINALS in their respective competitions to be played this weekend. Play well and enjoy the game!
I look forward to congratulating all players on their season soon and acknowledging the efforts of the teams still playing.
Recently our Kindergarten and Year 6 students joined forces to undertake some damper cooking! This buddy activity was a lot of fun and through lots of teamwork some tasty damper was the reward! It was good to hear that the excess flour washed out of their uniforms easily! Well done to the Kindergarten and Year 6 teachers for their support, in particular Mr Read for sharing his camping and bush cooking skills!
Just a reminder that the next pupil free day is to be held at Rosary and across A.C.T. primary Schools on Friday 9 September. Staff will be involved in relevant professional learning and undertaking administration and tasks related to their roles. Our OSHClub service is unable to operate on this day.
Where possible, I ask that you make alternative arrangements for care of your children on this day. If you are unable to arrange alternative supervision, please send an email to office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au with the subject ATTN: Greg Walker – pupil free day supervision required. Please include your child’s name and year and details of your family circumstance. Emails MUST be received by 12pm on Wednesday 7th September.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless
Greg Walker

YEAR 2 LITURGY
Year 2 will be participating in a liturgy at Holy Rosary Church tomorrow, 1 September at 10am. All welcome. Please maintain physical distancing and refrain from taking photos or video in the church.
MICHAEL MANGAN CONCERT
Michael Mangan will be performing for the students at school on 14 September. He is a composer, teacher, performer and liturgist who is based in Brisbane, Australia. We use some of Michael’s songs in our masses and liturgies. His concerts are highly interactive and fun and aim to:
- inspire children and teachers to participate enthusiastically
- celebrate our Catholic Identity in song
- help students focus on the themes and liturgical seasons behind the songs
- introduce and help teach a new repertoire quickly.
WOMEN’S FAITH CIRCLE
Three Reasons to join a Women's Faith Circle:
- COMMUNITY: Meet people and reconnect outside of Sunday services.
- CELEBRATION: Rejoice with each other through all seasons of life. We are not alone in our struggles. We know that when women come together, great things happen!
- CONVERSATION: Share the journey of life and pray together.
If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, please email Emily at emilykathrynhall@gmail.com. for further information.
Peace and best wishes
Ann-Maree Hinds

Australia's Biggest Child Safety Lesson
Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson (ABCSL) is a free livestreamed event that engages children across the country in vital personal safety education. In National Child Protection Week, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation will livestream two brand new video safety lessons to children around the country.
Preventing child sexual abuse is everybody’s responsibility. Teaching children that they have the right to be safe, that they are allowed to say no to anything or anyone that makes them uncomfortable, and that there are adults who will help them has the power to prevent harm. These messages also empower children who are experiencing abuse to tell someone who can help.
In these age-appropriate, engaging, and positive lessons, children will learn skills and strategies to seek help if they ever feel unsafe. The lessons reframe accessing support as a truly heroic and courageous act.
Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for early years and junior primary students (4-7 years old) will go live at 9am AEST on Tuesday 7 September (approx 10 mins long). This is followed by a new resource for upper primary students (8-12 years old) at 10am AEST (approx 25 mins long).
What: Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson for Early Childhood and Junior Primary
When: 9am AEST for 4-7-year-olds, 10am AEST for 8-12-year-olds, Tuesday 6 September
Students from Rosary will take part in Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson. This lesson supports our commitment to giving our students strategies and information to keep themselves safe.

Bookweek 2022 was both a joyous and creative experience for all students and staff! Kinder Paris kindly let us highjack their assembly, so after they had presented their learning experiences the Bookweek parade began. The second part was all about books- which saw some year 6 boys voluntarily form a band, students regaling us with raps about books and an explanation of history of the Children's Book Council of Australia. The Bookfair was equally successful with sales exceeding $6000! Thank you all so very much for supporting our Library- we receive 30% in free book resources for all students to enjoy! Special thanks to Nicole Arndt, one of our classroom support assistants, who helped with many parent sales before and after school.
Again, it’s the wonderful goodwill of Rosary parents that makes our school so very unique. Thankyou,
Sandy and Jodie
For students, learning how to support their peers and talk about how they feel is an important life lesson. You don’t need to be an expert to have an R U OK? conversation. Listening and giving someone your time might be just what they need to help them through.
At Rosary this year, teachers will be using age-appropriate resources to teach children how to ask R U OK?
The resources have been designed to introduce and emphasise the value of close connections and strong relationships. Rosary encourages students to look out for their classmates by asking R U OK?

Respect Pride and Safety (Rosary Primary School)
Respect Pride and Safety (Rosary Primary School)
Introducing, modelling, and reinforcing positive social behaviours is an important step of a student’s educational experience.
Each term we focus on teaching positive behaviour at Rosary. This term we are asking students to remember that we are a ‘Hands Off’ school. Our school rules always fall under the banner of Respect Pride and Safety (RPS).
Teachers will be reminding students that games and interactions must be ‘Hands Off’. Our aim is to promote harmony and safety within our school community. Students are also provided with language they can use if someone uses “Hands On’.
‘STOP IT. I DON’T LIKE IT.’
Students are encouraged to go to a teacher and ask for help if someone is using ‘Hands On’.
Signage can be seen in classrooms and corridors to reinforce this positive message.
Hands Off Please!
It’s the Rosary Way………

A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.

The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
