Principals Report Week 9 Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 3 ‘Two Glows and One Grow’ - Showcasing Student Achievement
Staff are currently working on ‘Two Glows and One Grow’ with their students. Class teachers have discussed the learning achievements and challenges with each student in their class and then collaborated on two areas in which they have shown growth and one area that they agree needs to be developed further (like a goal for them to work towards achieving next).
The ‘Two Glows and One Grow’ information will be shared with you in Week 10 - on Tuesday 20 September. Please remember if you would like to discuss your child’s learning or another aspect of school, you are encouraged to contact your class teacher at any time of a school term.
Year 1 Minibeast Fun Day
The Year One classrooms were full of colourful minibeasts and excited explorers today as they celebrated their learning with a Marvellous Minibeasts Fun Day. The day was full of Minibeast themed fun. The Students practiced drawing minibeasts, enjoyed a Minibeast Hunt with their Year 5 Mates and watched ‘A Bugs Life’ while munching on popcorn.
Thank you to the Year One teachers for organising such a special day of learning for their students.
Reminder about No Nuts Policy at Rosary
In 2022, we have a number of students that may suffer serious anaphylactic reactions to nuts and other food products. Nuts usually pose the greatest risk to these students, hence our no nuts policy. Where possible, class teachers will monitor students eating lunch but your support in this practice is appreciated.
All students in the school will be encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water after eating their recess and lunch food, providing another level of safety for any students prone to serious anaphylactic reactions.
Confirmation Prayers
Please keep the students who will be making the Sacrament of Confirmation this week in your prayers.
Thank you to Liz Higgins, Ann-Maree Hinds, Elizabeth Fryar and Mara Pangallo for all of their preparation and guidance.
Public Holiday – Thursday 22nd September 2022
The Australian Government has declared a Public Holiday on Thursday 22 September 2022 as a national day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.
There will be no school on this day.
School will resume as normal on Friday 23 September for our Big Challenge day. We are looking forward to a fantastic day.
Condolences
Sincere condolences are extended to the Pochi Family (Henry 3B and William 6A) whose Grandfather, passed away in recent days.
May he rest now in eternal peace and may his family be comforted and strengthened by the grace of God during this sad and difficult time.
Wishing you all a wonderful week.
Kind regards

Well known artist, Michael Mangan, performed some of his favourites and taught the students some new songs today. He provided a very engaging and musical experience for the students.
WOMEN’S FAITH CIRCLE
Three Reasons to join a Women's Faith Circle:
- COMMUNITY: Meet people and reconnect outside of Sunday services.
- CELEBRATION: Rejoice with each other through all seasons of life. We are not alone in our struggles. We know that when women come together, great things happen!
- CONVERSATION: Share the journey of life and pray together.
If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, please email Emily at emilykathrynhall@gmail.com. for further information.

As Term 3 draws to a close, we would like to acknowledge our appreciation to the students, parents and staff for another wonderful term. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring important concepts of critical and visual literacy through the CBCA Shortlisted Books. For many, the highlight has been the ‘Book Week Dress Up’ day with a special thank you to all parents for making this such a meaningful and exciting experience for their children.
Thank you again, to everyone for making the 2022 Book Fair the best ever! It was lovely to see the buzz and excitement on the students’ faces as they looked around the Book Fair. This year we raised a bit over $6000, with 35% of the book sales being given to the school in ‘free books’ for all to read. This will ensure that we can continue to acquire new releases and popular favourites amongst the students. A big thank you to Nicole Arndt and the Year 6 Library Monitors for helping with the Book Fair. We truly value your ongoing and continued support of reading and our Library.
Also, please keep an eye out for any Library books or school readers that may be sitting somewhere in the home in preparation for their return by next WEDNESDAY.
Thank you all so much,
Jodie and Sandy
Mr Ederle popped in this week to kindly donate two kit planes that he and a fellow enthusiast (Jimmy) no longer have a need for! Even with Peter's retirement this year, he is thrilled to know that we still run 'Aero Club' in the Library and that children are still keen to participate using the flight simulators. He is holding a trophy that he creates from broken propellors that are then awarded to students for outstanding skills shown during the program sessions.
Thank you, Mr Ederle for your continued support of this endeavour!
CARPARK SAFETY MEASURES
- The speed limit in the car park is 5km/h.
- All students walking to or from parked cars need to be accompanied by an adult.
- The drop off zone is for morning use only. The purpose of the drop off zone is to allow students to alight safely from vehicles directly onto school grounds without having to cross the car park.
- In the afternoon, the drop off zone is not in use as it impedes pedestrian safety as parents and students make their way to parked vehicles on the asphalt.
- Parking is not permitted along any red kerb on school grounds.
- The carpark (apart from the area near the hall) is designed for forward traffic flow to reduce the need for reversing.
- There is a stop sign at the exit gate to remind drivers to stop and look out for persons who may be crossing there.
Ride or Walk to School Day - Friday September 16th 2022
FRIDAY 16 September
This year Rosary will continue to participate in the ACT Government’s Ride or Walk to School program. The program suggests that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking or riding as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking or riding all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking or riding more by:
- Walking or riding with them the whole way to school
- If they get the bus, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
- If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Regular exercise like walking and riding with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes, it also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.
Please join us on Friday 16 September by using your legs or wheels to get to school. Remember that helmets must be worn if your child is cycling or riding a scooter.
Some of the staff will be at the Watson shops ready for an 8:30am departure. We hope to see many children and parents arriving at school without their car!

Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive. If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area. Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Respect Pride and Safety (Rosary Primary School)
Respect Pride and Safety (Rosary Primary School)
Introducing, modelling, and reinforcing positive social behaviours is an important step of a student’s educational experience.
Each term we focus on teaching positive behaviour at Rosary. This term we are asking students to remember that we are a ‘Hands Off’ school. Our school rules always fall under the banner of Respect Pride and Safety (RPS).
Teachers will be reminding students that games and interactions must be ‘Hands Off’. Our aim is to promote harmony and safety within our school community. Students are also provided with language they can use if someone uses “Hands On’.
‘STOP IT. I DON’T LIKE IT.’
Students are encouraged to go to a teacher and ask for help if someone is using ‘Hands On’.
Signage can be seen in classrooms and corridors to reinforce this positive message.
Hands Off Please!
It’s the Rosary Way………

Late Student Arrivals / Early Student Departures
Your assistance with this important matter is greatly appreciated.
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
