Principals Report Week 10 Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for your support in Term 3. It has been a very busy term with lots of highlights for the students.
It was a special occasion last Friday evening when 27 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation at Blackfriars Parish Church. Congratulations to these students and their parents, Godparents and teachers who have supported them. Thank you to Fr Mannes for confirming the children and celebrating the sacrament.
Staff News
Good luck to Mr Chris Evans and his fiance Shannon for their wedding this Saturday. This is a very exciting time and a special moment for this young couple. I know Year 5 Panama students are also very excited and look forward to hearing about the event and seeing photos of the big day when school resumes!
Student Learning Term 3 - ‘Two Glows and One Grow’
This week your child’s teacher provided you with some information and evidence of your child’s progress and where they have shone - ‘glowed’, as well as one area for future growth. I hope this has provided an insight into your child’s learning this term and some direction into what they work on in Term 4. You are always welcome to contact your child’s teacher at any time during the term to discuss academic progress or other matters. There will be a Semester Two report card provided towards the end of Term 4.
Big Challenge Success
Wow! The Big Challenge has taken off in 2022 with record donations and sponsorship pledges. Thank you to the whole community for getting behind our major fundraiser. The students are looking forward to the Big Challenge Day this Friday when they have to try new things and take risks to earn their money. They are also looking forward to the rewards day and activities planned for early in Term 4.
Leaving Students Notification Request
Enrolments are tracking well for 2023 and we are about to start planning our classes for next year. This process will begin early in Term 4.
To assist in this process I ask that you let the school know as soon as possible if your child is enrolled at another school for 2023 or if you are moving interstate or moving schools within the ACT in 2023. This will enable accurate class lists and friendships groups to be considered when lists are drafted.
Please email the school office at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Thank you.
Floriade Displays at School
Rosary School is proud to be part of Floriade again in 2022 with their community planting program. The bulbs and annuals planted by Year 6 students are starting to bloom right on time! You can see the spring flowers on display near the front and side entrances to the school.
Thank you again to Andrew Liso, one of our parents, for organising Rosary’s participation in Floriade again this year.
You may have noticed that the concrete base in the bottom corner of the school quad area near the toilets and bubblers has had some structural damage occur over the years. There are also water build up and drainage issues on the surface of that area of the quad when it rains. In the upcoming school holidays this area will undergo significant restoration work including pouring of a new reinforced slab, installation of a number of new drains and some other structural repairs and painting. Catholic Education are coordinating the project which should be completed before Term 4 commences. This project is funded through funds raised through the Catholic Schools Building Fund. As parents and carers, you make donations for school improvements and maintenance like this through this levy.
I wish you all a well-deserved Spring school holiday break and hope that you can find more time to be together as a family.
God Bless
Greg Walker

At the most recent Council meeting at the end of August we considered applications for new Council members and congratulate and welcome Krystal Eppelstun-Lee (Kinder mum of Vespa) and Harvey Wilson (Yr 1 mum of Elijah with William starting in Kindergarten in 2023) who will join Council in Term 4/2022 and Fiona Hill-Stein (mum of James Yr 4 and Anna Yr 2) who will commence in Term 1/2023. These new members will add some great skills and experience to our Council for their term of 2 years.
Our Principal advised of enrolment numbers which continue to grow steadily but still allowing us to maintain the smaller class sizes. Enrolment numbers for 2023 are expected to be just over 350. Our school registration process was scheduled for next year however we have been advised it is now to occur in 2024. In preparation for this we have conducted a school walk through in order to develop an asset planning spreadsheet to assist in determining priority works across the school buildings and grounds infrastructure. Council intends to undertake a Master Planning process for future infrastructure planning and this is activity is being requested through the Catholic Education Office.
We reviewed current after school activities and the possibility of adding to these in 2023. This will require discussion with an interested STEM type organisation which will progress over the coming weeks.
An update on fundraising activities was provided and the Big Challenge Day was discussed noting that major and participation prizes were being finalised.
Work is being undertaken by Council members on the Class Contacts and WhatsApp Process. When this is finalised it will be communicated to all and it is hoped that a small presentation could be made to the Kinder 2023 Orientation in Term 4. The streamlining of the process was needed and my thanks to those who have worked on this. We also have been working on a guideline for providing some financial support for extracurricular activities where the cost is prohibitive to some families – more on this in Term 4.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 19th October.
BIG Challenge Sponsors - Thank You
A HUGE thank you to our majour sponsor D1 Store for their generous support of our BIG Challenge Fundraiser:
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
CARPARK SAFETY MEASURES
- The speed limit in the car park is 5km/h.
- All students walking to or from parked cars need to be accompanied by an adult.
- The drop off zone is for morning use only. The purpose of the drop off zone is to allow students to alight safely from vehicles directly onto school grounds without having to cross the car park.
- In the afternoon, the drop off zone is not in use as it impedes pedestrian safety as parents and students make their way to parked vehicles on the asphalt.
- Parking is not permitted along any red kerb on school grounds.
- The carpark (apart from the area near the hall) is designed for forward traffic flow to reduce the need for reversing.
- There is a stop sign at the exit gate to remind drivers to stop and look out for persons who may be crossing there.
Respect Pride and Safety (Rosary Primary School)
Respect Pride and Safety (Rosary Primary School)
Introducing, modelling, and reinforcing positive social behaviours is an important step of a student’s educational experience.
Each term we focus on teaching positive behaviour at Rosary. This term we are asking students to remember that we are a ‘Hands Off’ school. Our school rules always fall under the banner of Respect Pride and Safety (RPS).
Teachers will be reminding students that games and interactions must be ‘Hands Off’. Our aim is to promote harmony and safety within our school community. Students are also provided with language they can use if someone uses “Hands On’.
‘STOP IT. I DON’T LIKE IT.’
Students are encouraged to go to a teacher and ask for help if someone is using ‘Hands On’.
Signage can be seen in classrooms and corridors to reinforce this positive message.
Hands Off Please!
It’s the Rosary Way………

Coordinator
Whole Day Absences - please submit via Parent Portal
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.

Late Student Arrivals / Early Student Departures
Your assistance with this important matter is greatly appreciated.
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive. If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area. Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Canberra City Stallions U12’s JPL basketball team - Milla Lane and Nel Baraniecki Year 5
Milla Lane and Nel Baraniecki (Year 5) were both part of the Canberra City Stallions U12’s JPL basketball team that claimed the ACT Junior Premier League title last weekend. It was a great team win for the girls downing the Ginninderra Rats 66-49.
These shots were taken last term as part of our investigation into Sonia Delaunay, pioneer French artist in the world of abstract art. What is great about her art is that she not only designed for the fashion world but for the industrial world, namely cars. The kids had a great time experimenting with colours and designs, as well as learning about drawing proportional human figures (always a tricky one!)
The ANU Rocketry team is holding a face-to-face workshop where students throughout high school can learn all about the basics of rocketry. Students will participate in a presentation session and then have the opportunity to design and simulate their own rocket. Finally, they will have the chance to put their knowledge into practice as they construct their own model rockets based on their simulated designs!
Our event page is here for tickets: https://fb.me/e/2MhMxDpGl

Canberra Youth Theatre - Soul Trading
Soul Trading
By Kate Walder
I can see your souls. They might be imperceptible to the human eye but it’s very clear to us that you have something that we don’t.
The year is 2079. Humans are created with gene selection technology, Artificial Intelligence is part of everyday life and children’s best friends are their Learning Bots. Except for Jerry. Jerry is not like the others. Neither is Neutron Finch, an exceptionally clever Learning Bot who seems to appear out of nowhere. He is smarter than most Bots, funnier and also possibly illegal. It doesn’t take long for the status quo to unravel and one night, Jerry and his classmates are summoned to the oval…
The Bots want souls. Specifically, theirs. It’s up to six young minds to solve the greatest existential question of all time within 24 hours. Will their soul-searching provide the answers they need to stop AI destroying the world as they know it?
