Principals Report Week 3 Term 4
B.E.S.T. AWARDS - ‘Triumph’ focus in Term 4
Each term we have been acknowledging students for their efforts and endeavours from the Rosary B.E.S.T. Principles of Learning - BELIEVE, EXPLORE, STRIVE and this term the focus is on TRIUMPH. Seeking to succeed or triumph is important in the learning process and is often the pinnacle of effort over time. Self-efficacy is a person’s belief in one’s ability to succeed and has an important impact on attitude, wellbeing, motivation and behaviour. Self-efficacy also plays a role in how tasks and challenges are approached. We are encouraging and developing self-efficacy with our students and this term will present special TRIUMPH awards at Friday assemblies in Weeks 3, 6 and 9
Year 6 Camp Success
Last week our Year 6 students made the best of a 3-day local mega excursion that replaced their postponed interstate camp. Sometimes some of the best activities are right here in your own backyard! A big thank you to Mrs Pangallo and Mrs Fryar for planning the event and being with the students through all of the activities.
Year 5 Camp Going Well
Our Year 5 students and staff return from camp this afternoon. They spent 3 days and two nights at the NSW Sport and Recreation Centre in Jindabyne. My understanding is that they dodged most of the wet weather and were able to participate in all of the events planned. They enjoyed all of the outdoor education challenges and the endeavour and team work required. Thank you to Mr Evans, Miss McKerrow, Miss Blom and Mr O’Brien for attending camp with the students after a couple of late changes. We look forward to hearing some of their camp reflections next week.
Kindergarten Nagoya Assembly
Congratulations to Kinder Nagoya on their assembly on Monday. Kinder Nagoya students starred in a TV report showcasing varying aspects of their work this term. Parents were able to attend and they saw some live reading, acting and singing as well as the clever video presented by Mr Read. Well done Kinder Nagoya. All of our Kinder students in both classes have had a good year and are very close to moving on to Year 1!
Leaving Students Notification Request
Enrolments are tracking well for 2023 and we are about to start planning our classes for next year. This process will occur in Term 4.
To assist in this process I ask that you let the school know as soon as possible if your child is enrolled at another school for 2023 or if you are moving interstate or moving schools within the ACT in 2023. This will enable accurate class lists and friendship groups to be considered when lists are drafted.
Please email the school office at office.rosaryps@cg.catholic.edu.au
Working with Vulnerable People Cards Required to Volunteer
You are reminded that school events are happening again (which is great news) and parents and carers are now able to attend many of them or volunteer to help at school.
You are reminded that you do need a current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card to be able to attend excursions, help with fundraising events and assist in the classroom or other areas of the school. Please check to see if your card is valid or if it has expired.
If applicable, please apply for a new card or renew your card if you intend to volunteer to assist with school events and working with children. There is no fee to gain a WWVP card for volunteers. You need to have your card physically on your person when you are volunteering at school or at an event. Please remember to sign in at the Front Office everytime you visit the school to volunteer.
We look forward to having more parents and carers involved in school.

This year the focus is on raising funds to support families in Ethiopia facing malnutrition and food insecurity.

Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Clothing Pool Open during School Hours
The Rosary Clothing Pool is open to families to purchase second hand uniform items for $5 per piece. Please note that currently only one family is allowed in the room at any one time and hand sanitisation is required upon entry and exit. A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Whole Day Absences / Late Arrival / Early Departures - via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
