Principals Report Week 4 Term 4
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Our Year 3 students are preparing to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time tonight. The Sacrament will take place in Holy Rosary Church at 5.30pm. I pray that the children will return to this Sacrament often to receive the Lord’s blessing of forgiveness and renewal.
Superhero Fun Day
Everyone had a fabulous time Friday at the Superhero Fun Day which was a reward for the students because they exceeded the fundraising target of the Big Challenge event. On the day the students enjoyed a sausage sandwich and disco. They were so excited to dress up in Super Hero costumes, to be out of uniform and to have a day of fun activities and no formal school work. Thanks to Mrs Welsh and Mrs Brokenshire for purchasing and preparing the sausages for lunch and to Mrs Hinds, Miss Webb and Mrs Godfrey for cooking and distribution.
I take this opportunity to thank the parent community for such generosity, the Community Council for unfailing support and to Mrs Hinds, Mrs Higgins, Mrs Watson and Miss McKerrow for their extraordinary efforts in organising the Big Challenge.

At our first Council meeting for Term 4 we discussed a number of items. Firstly a “big thank you” to everyone: teachers, students, parents, sponsors and helpers, for a wonderfully successful Big Challenge. Council provided $20k towards the classroom digital interactive screens now in operation throughout the school – this is only possible through the great fundraising efforts of our wonderful and generous school community.
Our principal provided an update amongst other items on enrolments and we are currently projecting 354 students for the start of 2023. He updated the Council on the work that was undertaken in the school holidays and beyond (due to weather) to address the lower corner and water issues in the quad. We are now working on the development of the 2023 school budget which will continue over the coming weeks. The guideline for the newly established fund for Assistance to families (experiencing financial difficulties) for Student Extra Curricular Activities was finalised and will be advised in the December and January newsletters. The Class Contacts and WhatsApp process has been reviewed and refined over the last couple of months and is ready to go.
A number of items related to our recently developed asset improvement register were discussed being Junior Playground works, Oval project, etc and a separate meeting will be held to work through and prioritise works for the future.
The Council also looked into some activities to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the school which falls in 2023. We will need to establish a small committee to work on this so please if you are interested don’t hesitate to contact us via email at rosarycouncil@gmail.com
The Rosary Community Council is now calling on nominations for 2023 Class Contacts. Class Contacts are an integral part of the Rosary School Community, and the Council greatly appreciates all parent volunteers. Please find the flyer and nomination form below.
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.

Clothing Pool Open during School Hours
The Rosary Clothing Pool is open to families to purchase second hand uniform items for $5 per piece. Please note that currently only one family is allowed in the room at any one time and hand sanitisation is required upon entry and exit. A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
