Principals Report Week 5 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers
Recently I have been on a period of personal carers leave for a member of my family and hope to be at school more over the next week. Thank you to the wonderful Rosary staff for keeping the school running smoothly. I am playing a bit of catch up but so many wonderful things have been occurring at Rosary.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Congratulations to the Year 3 students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation last Thursday 3 November. This is an important step in the sacramental journey for these students.
This sacrament allows Jesus to express his love for children today and children to come to know and love Jesus. Through reconciliation Jesus forgives them for any wrongdoings and sin, demonstrating his power to heal them and to start anew, continuing to build relationships built on love and respect. In many ways this sacrament helps people bring about a change of heart through God's mercy and forgiveness.
Annual ACT Junior Chess League's Girls Chess Competition
On Monday 7th November Rosary held the Annual ACT Junior Chess League's Girls' Chess Competition. We were fortunate to have 93 students from local and interstate schools attend. This was one of the biggest chess competitions held in recent years. The girls had a fabulous day, meeting students from different schools and playing their best chess games. The girls showed skill, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Rosary tied fourth place in a tightly contested competition. Thank you to Shaun Press, Sandy Vincent and Jodie Dawson for the organisation and smooth running of the day, and Mr Mogan for organising and helping to facilitate the setting up and packing up of chess tables.
2023 Kindergarten Orientation Next Week
Our 2023 Kindergarten Orientation Session is to be held next Wednesday 16 November from 9.15am - 11.00am. We look forward to welcoming our new students, as well as families, some existing but some with their first child attending Rosary School. This is always an exciting time in the journey of starting big school!
Year 2 Barcelona Assembly
Congratulations to Year 2 Barcelona on their recent assembly. I believe it was very good and they impressed the parents and carers, as well as the students and staff.
Year 1 Vienna Assembly
Parents of students in Year 1 Vienna are invited to attend their assembly at 2.30pm next Monday 14 November. They are so excited about their presentation for you!
Remembrance Day Liturgy on Friday
This Friday Year 5 students will lead us in a Remembrance Day Liturgy at 10.40am in the Remembrance Garden area near the school court area entrance gates. On Remembrance Day, we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve. During times of war, individual acts of heroism occur frequently; only a few are ever recorded and receive official recognition.
Excursions and Incursions
A number of excursions and incursions continue to occur this term. Recently Year 3, Year 2 and Year 1 have been on adventures to exciting places. Year 4 is on excursion next week and more trips are planned for some other year levels soon too. These are positive experiences for the students to end the year after previous periods of COVID-19 restrictions.
Wishing you all a good week ahead.
God Bless
Greg Walker

CATHOLIC MISSION FUNDRAISER
Last Monday the students arrived in their crazy socks and donated money to support the work of Catholic Mission. This year the focus is on raising funds to support families in Ethiopia facing malnutrition and food insecurity. Together we raised $387. Thank you for supporting this important initiative.

The Rosary Community Council is now calling on nominations for 2023 Class Contacts. Class Contacts are an integral part of the Rosary School Community, and the Council greatly appreciates all parent volunteers. Please find the flyer and nomination form below.
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.

A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.

The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
