Principals Report Week 7 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another busy week as we head towards the end of the year. We are looking forward to our upcoming celebratory events.
Year 6 Graduation
The 2022 Year 6 Graduation will be held on Tuesday 13th December at the Ainslie Football Club.
We are looking forward to celebrating this year’s Graduation with the Yr 6 students and their parents and hope that the occasion will be remembered with fondness in the years to come.
Candy Canes & Christmas Cards
At this time of the year, children like to give one another candy canes and Christmas cards; which is a lovely thing to do. However, we ask children to place cards into their bags as soon as they receive them so that they don’t become lost and we ask them to take the candy canes home to eat. We inform the children that it is not appropriate to eat candy canes at school for a few reasons:
- Parents provide certain foods and expect that their children will eat these foods and not fill up on ‘other’ things
- Parents need to know what their children are eating
- The school discourages consumption of foods containing high levels of sugar, colourings and preservatives for health reasons
- Some children may have allergies to certain foods
- The wrappers are often hard to peel off the cane, coming away in ‘bits and pieces’ which often don’t find their way to the bin and thus create a litter problem.
I ask that you also speak with your children about these things and ask them to bring candy canes and cards home so that you can see what they have received. Many thanks.
Messages between Parents and Students
Please be aware that the school has a duty of care for students whilst they are on school grounds and that any messages between parents and students must go via the front office. It is important, for safety reasons, that the school is aware of arrangements for students. Students are not permitted to use their devices whilst on school grounds to message their parents directly nor are they permitted to receive messages directly from parents (via phone or iPad). To ensure cyber safety, no child is allowed to be on a device (this includes phones) on school grounds without teacher permission. Before and after school, students can use their devices before arriving and after leaving school grounds, such as on the school bus, in the car or on their way as they walk home as long as parental permission has been granted.
2023 Start of School Date
The 2023 school year will begin on Tuesday 31st January for all students, Kindergarten to Year 6. The school day will start at 9.00am for students in Years 1 to 6. Kindergarten students will start at 9.30am on the first day only. Every day following will begin at 9.00am. The day will end at 3.00pm for students who catch a bus and at 3.10pm for all others. Kindergarten students will have a rest day at home for the first 3 Wednesdays of the term before starting full weeks at school in Week 4 (week beginning Monday 20th February).
Wishing you a great week ahead. Take care.
God bless.

YEAR 5 MASS
Last week Year 5 participated beautifully in a Mass which honoured the life of St Elizabeth of Hungary. Thank you to Chris Evans and Nicole Mogan for all their preparation. Thank you also to the parents and grandparents who were able to attend.
ADVENT
Advent is a special time in the church year when we prepare and get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
The Christmas: Way of the Star is a guided series of testimonies, scriptures, reflections and prayers that follow the scriptural encounters leading up to the birth of Christ. The Way of the Star is the journey of Jesus. It is also our journey. As you undertake this journey, be open to encountering Jesus in a new way this Christmas.

Hopeful God,
As we wait this Advent,
we wait in wonder at what the world might be:
a place of fairness and welcome,
where everyone has what they need to live fully.
As we wait this Advent,
we also pray:
for all in our human family who,
like Mrs Lan and her family,
hope for a better life,
rich with possibility.
Hopeful God,
help us share your hope.
Amen

Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Clothing Pool Open during School Hours
The Rosary Clothing Pool is open to families to purchase second hand uniform items for $5 per piece. Please note that currently only one family is allowed in the room at any one time and hand sanitisation is required upon entry and exit. A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The Rosary Community Council is now calling on nominations for 2023 Class Contacts. Class Contacts are an integral part of the Rosary School Community, and the Council greatly appreciates all parent volunteers. Please find the flyer and nomination form below.

DVCS' Kids High Tea - Saturday 10 December 2022
Who is it for?
Primary school age children and significant adults in their lives (for example, parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and carers).
The activities will be aimed at the kids, inclusive of everyone, and age-appropriate.
About the event
We all want the best for the kids in our lives. We want them to have good experiences, healthy relationships and opportunities to shine. We want them to understand right and wrong. We want them to respect others and respect themselves.
We have teamed up with Sexual Health & Family Planning ACT and CatholicCare to do some awesome activities where we will explore topics like communicating respectfully, asking tricky questions, healthy relationships, and looking after our wellbeing. This will be over a tasty morning tea, of course.
If you're looking for something to do with your nearest and dearest kids, come along to our Kids High Tea at 10.30am on Saturday 10 December!
Here’s a sneak peek from CatholicCare about their wellbeing session:
Good mental health and wellbeing enables children to reach their full potential. Join CatholicCare psychologists and be prepared to have some fun as we teach kids and parents/carers about mindfulness and relaxation. Parents/carers will also learn some useful tips that support their parenting skills.
To find out more and register for this event, visit the Eventbrite page.
