Principals Report Week 8 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers
Year 5 Combined Assembly
Congratulations to Year 5 Panama and Year 5 Washington on their combined assembly on Monday. Year 5 students showcased their learning with a focus on their recent 3-day camp to Jindabyne. Each activity at camp seemed a lot of fun and promoted teamwork, problem solving, adventure and at times a little bit of risk taking. Well done to Mrs Mogan and Mr Evans on their great work with Year 5 this year too.
Rosary Christmas Carols Evening
Semester Two Reports (Week 9) and Parent Teacher Learning Conversation (Week 10)
The Semester Two student reports will be available in COMPASS to parents and carers next Tuesday 6 December. This report will summarise the academic achievement in each strand in each subject as well as an overall grade. Your child’s teacher will also assess your child against the Engagement With Learning Statements which are essentially desirable work habits.
Again, there are no teacher comments on this semester report. However, you do have the option to speak with your child’s teacher in Week 10. These conversations can now take place in person or if you would prefer an online TEAMS meeting for convenience that can be arranged with your child’s teacher too.
There is no formal booking sheet across the school for these conversations. Please contact your child’s teacher to negotiate a suitable time via your normal means or contact the front office staff and they will advise the relevant teacher to contact you.
Vacancy - Rosary Office Manager - Administration and Finance Position
I wanted to make our school community aware that the Rosary Office Manager - Administration and Finance position is currently being advertised for 2023. You may be interested in the position yourself or know someone suitable for the position. The reason for the vacancy is primarily an internal re-shuffle, Ms van der Sanden and Mrs Welsh are still staying at Rosary.
The position is advertised as 76 hours fortnight, with the capacity for some negotiation for the successful candidate. The position does involve school finance so experience or qualifications in this area/field would be desirable.
For more information visit the Catholic Education system website at https://careers.cg.catholic.edu.au/en/listing/
Wishing you all the best for the week ahead as we approach Week 9!
God Bless
Greg Walker
Principal

Advent is a special time in the church year when we prepare and get ready to celebrate
the birth of Jesus.
The Christmas: Way of the Star is a guided series of testimonies, scriptures, reflections and prayers that follow the scriptural encounters leading up to the birth of Christ. The Way of the Star is the journey of Jesus. It is also our journey. As you undertake this journey, be open to encountering Jesus in a new way this Christmas.

Library News - Books to be Returned!
Library Book Return
As the end of the term is almost upon us, we are requesting all families look at home and return any books with a Rosary Primary School stamp and, very importantly, any Library books with a barcode on the front. We conduct a yearly stocktake of our collection and it is essential we have all books returned. We will be in contact with families with overdue books in the coming week via notes or phone calls. We REALLY appreciate your support in this huge end-of-year endeavour!!

Council met last Wednesday 23/11 for the last meeting of 2022. It has been a busy year albeit still slow in events and fundraising due to the ongoing impacts of COVID. Nonetheless much has been achieved and this will be outlined in the Council Report for 2022 which will be provided prior to the end of the school year.
In the last period Council completed an Asset Prioritisation process considering the building and landscape requirements and determining key priority areas for 2023. It is intended that we undertake a master planning exercise next year and the work we have done around our assets will help inform the process. This also allows us to consider where our fundraising dollars are needed most in the future to the benefit of all students and of course our wonderful teachers and staff.
Next year we welcome Fiona Hill-Stein to Council and will consider when we need to recruit again for new members. This will be required as a number of members will likely step down at the end of 2023 as their time on Council expires and they move on to other things which of course leaves opportunities for others to become involved.
A big thank you to those who have put their hand up to be a Class Contact for 2023 – a very important communications role and one that is much appreciated by the school community.
And next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Rosary Primary School (or Rosary Demonstration School as it was called for a long time) and we have commenced discussions on how to celebrate this milestone. If you wish to become involved in the planning of activities please contact Council at rosarycouncil@gmail.com as we will be looking for some energetic helpers.

Clothing Pool Open during School Hours
The Rosary Clothing Pool is open to families to purchase second hand uniform items for $5 per piece. Please note that currently only one family is allowed in the room at any one time and hand sanitisation is required upon entry and exit. A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school year is divided into four terms. Term dates for the year 2022 are as follows:
Term 1 (10 weeks) Monday 31 January - Friday 8 April
Term 2 (10 weeks) Wednesday 27 April - Friday 1 July (Tuesday 26 April is a system wide Pupil Free Day)

Term 4 (10 weeks) Monday 10 October – Thursday 15th December (Friday 16 December is a system wide Pupil Free Day)
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.

DVCS' Kids High Tea - Saturday 10 December 2022
Who is it for?
Primary school age children and significant adults in their lives (for example, parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and carers).
The activities will be aimed at the kids, inclusive of everyone, and age-appropriate.
About the event
We all want the best for the kids in our lives. We want them to have good experiences, healthy relationships and opportunities to shine. We want them to understand right and wrong. We want them to respect others and respect themselves.
We have teamed up with Sexual Health & Family Planning ACT and CatholicCare to do some awesome activities where we will explore topics like communicating respectfully, asking tricky questions, healthy relationships, and looking after our wellbeing. This will be over a tasty morning tea, of course.
If you're looking for something to do with your nearest and dearest kids, come along to our Kids High Tea at 10.30am on Saturday 10 December!
Here’s a sneak peek from CatholicCare about their wellbeing session:
Good mental health and wellbeing enables children to reach their full potential. Join CatholicCare psychologists and be prepared to have some fun as we teach kids and parents/carers about mindfulness and relaxation. Parents/carers will also learn some useful tips that support their parenting skills.
To find out more and register for this event, visit the Eventbrite page.
