Principals Report Week 9 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers
Well, just one week of school remaining for 2022. How the year has flown! We have been blessed to have a full year of school in person and the opportunity to work together and be part of the Rosary Community. Students will meet their 2023 teacher next week and various transition activities will take place as we plan for next year.
Semester Two Student Reports
This week you would have been able to access your child’s Semester Two Report via COMPASS. I hope that your child has done their best and progressed in areas of their academic work. If you would like to discuss the report with your child’s teacher please contact the teacher directly or enquire through the front office and a message can be passed on to the relevant class teacher.
Christmas Carols
After a few years of disruption, Christmas Carols returned to Rosary School on Wednesday evening this week. It was wonderful to see so many students and families join staff for the celebration. We were treated to some beautiful singing and actions to a variety of carols. We certainly left the evening knowing that Christmas is near and that the joy and peace this season brings us is so special.
Gelato Day
On Thursday this week the Community Council treated students to Gelato Day, which had been postponed due to COVID-19 earlier in the year. We have been blessed with some nice sunny weather lately so the gelato ice cream cones were very well received after lunch! There were many debates about the nicest flavour but there was no consensus on a winner! There was a call from many students for seconds but this couldn’t be accommodated. Thank you to the Community Council and also the parent and carer volunteers from Year 1 for setting up and serving the gelato.
2023 Staff News
Ms Janet Hanratty recently made the decision that she would not continue in the role of Classroom Support Teacher in 2023 and beyond. Ms Hanratty has held this position for a number of years, assisting students, staff and families make the required adjustments to meet individual student’s needs. Ms Hanratty has also taught at Rosary and in Canberra schools for many years. Ms Hanratty plans to continue teaching in a relief teacher capacity so we will still see her around at Rosary. Thank you to Ms Hanratty for the care, dedication and time she has given to others in her Classroom Support Teacher role.
Two new staff are joining Rosary in 2023. Mr Damien Hinds joins our staff from Holy Family Primary School in Gowrie. Damien is an experienced teacher who knows our school well and has undertaken some casual work here in recent years. Miss Nuri La also joins our school staff. Nuri is a graduate teacher from the University of Canberra with lots of interests and talents. Nuri is also an ex-Rosary student who is very excited about returning to the school in a teaching capacity.
End of Year Mass and Year 6 Graduation Celebrations
Two of the highlights each year are always our End-of-Year Mass and Year 6 Graduation. Next Tuesday we have our end-of-year thanksgiving mass at 10am in the Church and the Year 6 Graduation at Ainslie Football Club in the evening. We give thanks to God for our community and our families and show our gratitude for the many blessings from this year. We also farewell our graduating Year 6 students. The Year 6 Class of 2022 have been awesome and we look forward to sharing this milestone moment with them.
The theme for their graduation dinner is ‘Your future’s so bright…you gotta wear shades!’ These individual students, and the whole cohort, have had a very successful year and primary school education so we have no doubt they have a great future ahead and they will shine bright in whatever they do! Thank you to Justine Tansley and the Year 5 parents that have organised an amazing graduation for the Year 6 students and families.
Congratulations Year 6.
Year 6 also has a celebration at Big Splash on Friday this week - more fun in the sun for 7 years of hard work!
There is also an end-of-year assembly and farewells planned for after lunch on the last day of school, next Thursday 15 December.
You are reminded that there is no school on Friday 16 December 2022. Also, the first day back for all students in 2023 is Tuesday 31 January.
A Christmas Prayer
Loving Father, Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
That we may share in the song of the angels,
The gladness of the shepherds,
And worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate
And open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
And good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing, which Christ brings
And teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us
Happy to be your children
And Christmas evening bring us
To our beds with grateful thoughts
Forgiving and forgiven
For Jesus sake
Amen.

God Bless.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL – THANK YOU!
Thank you for your generous support of the annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal. Our year 6 students carried baskets full of wonderful treats to Holy Rosary Church yesterday for distribution by our local chapter of the St Vincent de Paul Society. The baskets were received with much gratitude. Thank you!
ADVENT
The Christmas: Way of the Star is a guided series of testimonies, scriptures, reflections and prayers that follow the scriptural encounters leading up to the birth of Christ. The Way of the Star is the journey of Jesus. It is also our journey. As you undertake this journey, be open to encountering Jesus in a new way this Christmas.

Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
Clothing Pool Open during School Hours
The Rosary Clothing Pool is open to families to purchase second hand uniform items for $5 per piece. Please note that currently only one family is allowed in the room at any one time and hand sanitisation is required upon entry and exit. A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
