Principals Report Week 10 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to our final newsletter of 2022.
I have felt blessed to have joined the Rosary School community in 2022. It has been lovely to work with students, families and staff. It has also been a privilege to work with Fr Mannes and the Blackfriars Parish.
Thank you to the many parents, carers and grandparents who have supported the school in so many ways during 2022 - Community Council, fundraising, events, excursions, classroom volunteers, sporting teams and so many other ways.
I have enjoyed watching the students grow and learn this year as they engaged in their schooling and participated in a range of co-curricular activities. I am excited about 2023 and look forward to the many great things that are planned.

Dominican News
Provincial Fr Dominic Murphy OP recently visited Archbishop Christopher to inform him that the Dominican Fathers could no longer supply priests to run the parish. The Dominicans will officially handover the parish back to the Archdiocese on the Feast of Christ the King (November 26th, 2023).
Next year Blackfriars Parish, Rosary School and Signadou Campus of the Australian Catholic University all celebrate their 60th Anniversary.
The Dominican spirit and ethos will live on in these places. Planning will begin next year on a suitable celebration for the respective 60th Anniversaries and a huge farewell and thank you to the Dominican Friars for their service, commitment and pastoral care to our parish, university and Rosary School.
Our prayers are with our Dominican friends at this time as they discern a way forward and continue their vocations and service in other areas of Australia.
Please also see the official letter from Archbishop Christopher Prowse attached with the newsletter.
Christmas Wishes
I wish you and your family a very Holy and Peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I look forward to seeing you all in 2023.
God Bless
Greg Walker

ADVENT
The Christmas: Way of the Star is a guided series of testimonies, scriptures, reflections and prayers that follow the scriptural encounters leading up to the birth of Christ. The Way of the Star is the journey of Jesus. It is also our journey. As you undertake this journey, be open to encountering Jesus in a new way this Christmas.

Financial Assistance for Extracurricular Activities
Rosary Community Council has established a fund to support students to participate in extracurricular activities where their family may be experiencing financial difficulty. This fund has been established based on the philosophy of giving a Hand Up to these families through providing funds towards participation fees. If you wish to be considered for support through this fund please access the information and application form at (Website link here). Applications must be submitted and received prior to the end of February 2023 in order to be assessed.
With Christmas fast approaching, we would like to thank all our families for their support of Library borrowing, assessment tasks, not forgetting our wonderful 2022 year 6 Library Monitors! Our students love their time in our bright and welcoming hub.
If by chance your child has an outstanding book, please take the holiday break to have a look. Thank you!
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday break with family and friends. Happy Christmas to you all!!

Year 6 Graduation – Thank you to Mel Hill Photography
Year 6 Graduation – Thank you to Mel Hill Photography
The Year 6 students had a wonderful time at their graduation celebration on Tuesday night.
A large part of this was due to the fun and excitement of the photobooth – for the students, parents and the teachers!
We would like to thank Rosary parent, Michael from Mel Hill Photography, for the generous supply and operation of the photobooth again this year.
Thank you!

A key is available from the front office to access the room during school hours for your convenience.
All new uniform items can be purchased from Personally Yours. They are located at 218 Gladstone St, Fyshwick ACT 2609 and can be contacted on 6280 4166.
The school counsellor, Hilde de Raadt-Abma, is available every Wednesday and Thursday.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Hilde.
Hilde can be contacted via the school or email (hilde.deraadt@catholiccare.cg.org.au) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
