Principals Report Week 2 Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for supporting your child’s start to school in 2023. Thank you also for attending the Welcome Back Community BBQ last night if you were able and also for visiting your child’s classroom. The turn-out was excellent and it was lovely to see our parents and carers in the school and talking with staff and other families. Thank you to the Year 6 parents who cooked the BBQ for us as well as selling drinks.
If you were unable to attend, your child’s teacher will send home any relevant information or handouts to you this week.
The Welcome Back Community BBQ was an informal evening but there will be an opportunity for parent/teacher interviews in Week 6 Term One (6-7 March 2023). This will be an ideal time for a conversation about how your child has settled into their year group and how their effort and study is going in Term One. Invites for these meetings will be shared with you closer to this time.
Opening School Year Mass
Yesterday we also celebrated our 2023 Opening School Year Mass in Holy Rosary Church. It was great to share in this Eucharist celebration and give thanks for the blessings of our community and for the strength and guidance to meet the challenges and events of 2023. Fr Mannes reminded us in his homily about the importance of relationships and being there for each other. We all need to be connected and have friends. Starting a new school year provides this opportunity with a great sense of hope and excitement. Thank you to parents, carers and parishioners who attended the mass. There was a good number of adults in attendance at this mass too.
2023 VERITAS and B.E.S.T. Awards
Each Friday it is my pleasure to present the weekly Rosary VERITAS Awards at morning assembly to students who have worked hard or impressed their teachers with their manners, values or effort.
Our Rosary B.E.S.T. Awards are presented in Weeks 3, 5, 7 and 9 each term. This term our focus is on BELIEVE. BELIEVE is one of our 4 pillars highlighted in our principles for teaching and learning. Teachers will select students that exhibit the actions and values that keep the Dominican charism and spirit alive in our school. These Dominican charisms include: Prayer, Study, Community and Service.
Our Year 6 student leaders will soon set the example and launch the B.E.S.T. Award philosophy with our students soon, with our first focus on the aspect of ‘B’ - BELIEVE.
Teaching and Learning is valued at Rosary and we know that ‘TOGETHER WE DO OUR BEST’ - our learning motto.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.
God bless.

Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence. There is no need to adjust times for whole day absences.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
Parent WhatsApp Groups
Last Thursday, families in each year-level received an email, via Compass, containing a link to their 2023 Parent WhatsApp Group.
If you have not yet joined the relevant WhatsApp group, and would like to do so, please refer to that email ("Year X parent group - Class Contact and Parent WhatsApp Group Information") or access the email via 'My News' in the Compass portal.
Please note the 2022 WhatsApp groups will be closed this Friday, 10 February 2023.
Financial Assistance for Extracurricular Activities
Rosary Community Council has established a fund to support students to participate in extracurricular activities where their family may be experiencing financial difficulty. This fund has been established based on the philosophy of giving a Hand Up to these families through providing funds towards participation fees. If you wish to be considered for support through this fund please access the information and application form at (Website link here). Applications must be submitted and received prior to the end of February 2023 in order to be assessed.
The Rosary Canteen is independently run by Alpha Catering.
The Canteen is closed on Mondays. Orders can be placed online for Tuesday to Friday lunch orders. https://www.flexischools.com.au/FM/FM.aspx?p=NewUser&nw=1
Registration and app download links for Flexischools are available on our website (within the Whole School section) https://www.rosary.act.edu.au/notes-and-forms
Alpha Catering also offers home catering, available for collection on Tuesdays. Orders are also completed online via Flexischools.
Canteen - please update your child's class on Flexischools
As we have begun a new year with children moving classes this can create some confusion with the collection of lunch orders.
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Fathers and carers of all years are invited to attend the 1st DoR’s catch up for 2023. If successful the DoR’s will look to quarterly catch ups throughout 2023.
