Principals Report Week 9 Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers
Well, winter is definitely here now! I suppose it is late June in Canberra but the frosty mornings this week were certainly spectacular.
Semester One Reports Available Now
On Wednesday afternoon this week each student’s Semester One Report went live and is available to read in the parent portal of the COMPASS program.
In regard to the format of student reports in 2023, Catholic Education Canberra-Goulburn (CECG) has communicated to all schools that general comments will not be required on Semester 1, 2023 reports, but to prioritise Parent/Teacher Conferences for every family. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, their strengths, challenges and future areas of focus. A Semester Report will still be sent home as in previous semesters providing A-E grading and attendance information.
CECG has advised schools that Semester 2, 2023 reports will require a general comment for all children. This general comment will provide a summative comment for the year, areas of achievement and areas to focus on for the following year. A-E grading and attendance information will remain as normal. We would encourage all parents/guardians to engage regularly with their child/ren’s learning, connecting with their class teacher/s regularly to discuss learning progress.
A change you may notice in your child’s report this year is in the ‘Engagement in Learning’ section; there are now a 4 point criteria for assessing students, instead of the previous 3 areas. These learning habits can now be assessed as either Needs Improvement, Developing, Usually or Consistently.
Week 10 Parent Teacher Conferences - Online Bookings Close this Friday
We encourage all parents and carers to book a Parent Teacher Conference
with their child’s teacher on either Monday 26 June or Tuesday 27 June (Week 10).
Bookings for next week’s parent teacher conferences are still open, however, bookings will close at 3.00pm this Friday 23 June.
Each class teacher’s timesheet will be locked off at that time and any further bookings or changes can only be made by contacting your child’s teacher directly. It is a busy couple of days so the front office staff are not able to add new bookings to the teacher’s timetable without their approval.
Sophie Lemke Year 5 - Australian Futsal Team Selection
This year Sophia Lemke (Year 5) was selected to represent Australia for the sport of futsal as their goal keeper for the under 12 girls team in an international competition in Spain!
Next week Sophie actually heads off for Spain to play in this competition. What an amazing experience awaits her!
She is a very determined player and always attacks the ball to defend any shot taken in her goal. She played 6 games at Australian National titles and was selected as the best Goalkeeper in Australia in her age group. She has a passion for the sport like no other, and is a great teammate and supports and encourages all her teammates.
This trip would be even more special for her as it is in Spain where her mother grew up and she has never been to Spain before and that would give her an opportunity to meet great grandparents at the same time as representing Australia.
We are so proud of Sophie and it is a great honour for her to wear the green and gold colours and do Australia proud! Good luck Sophie!
Athletics Carnival this Friday - Weather Permitting
We are looking forward to the annual Rosary Athletics Carnival, scheduled for this Friday 23 June at Dickson Playing Fields. Unfortunately the weather forecast is not very promising, with rain expected.
Thank you to the parent volunteers who have put their name down to help on Friday. Thank you also to Mrs Elizabeth Fryar and the staff working hard to organise the carnival.
We will most likely make the decision about whether the carnival will go ahead on Thursday afternoon.
Notice of Students Leaving Rosary
Planning for class groupings in 2024 has begun. Kindergarten enrolment meetings have been held over the last two weeks, with offers of places going out very soon to these families.
To help with planning our class sizes, if your child is expected to leave Rosary School at any stage this year or to start the 2024 school year, please let the school office know as soon as possible. This includes students and families that may be moving to a different school in the A.C.T. or moving interstate or overseas.
Thank you for your support with this process.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless

On Friday16th June, Rosary hosted the Annual ACT Junior Chess League's Girls' Chess Competition. We were fortunate to have 102 students from local and interstate schools attend. This was one of the biggest chess competitions held in recent years. The girls had a fabulous day, meeting students from different schools and playing their best chess games. The girls showed skill, enthusiasm, and great sportsmanship. Rosary came third place in a tightly contested competition. Thank you to Shaun Press, Sandy Vincent and Jodie Dawson for the organisation and smooth running of the day, and Mr Mogan for organising and helping to facilitate the setting up and packing up of chess tables.

Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence. There is no need to adjust times for whole day absences.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school counsellor, is available every Thursday and Friday.
You can refer your child for counselling by contacting the school or filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss this with the counsellor.
Access to the clothing pool will now be as follows:
Monday - All Day (school hours)
Tuesday - Friday - Before and after school only
Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who maintain the space for our community.
Please note: All donations of preloved uniforms (in good wearable condition) are welcome at the front office.
