Principals Report Week 4 Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
Finance Transformation: School Fees and Billing System Changes
Rosary Primary School in partnership with Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn (CECG), has now migrated to a new finance system to generate efficiencies that works alongside the Compass parent portal and Compass mobile application, giving parents/caregivers visibility of their financial transactions within Compass.
Additionally, changes will affect the way you pay student tuition fees, levies, and other payments.
School Fee Statement Changes
School fee statements will have a new look. A new Customer Reference Number (CRN) has been created and payment methods have been updated. A statement will be sent out shortly that will contain an updated BPAY Biller Code and CRN that will need to be utilised going forward.
Statements will be emailed to financially responsible account holders each month, so it is necessary to ensure that your information is updated in the Compass parent portal, including your address and current email address.
Payment Methods
To support the changes in the school finance system, BPAY is now the preferred payment method. You will receive your new statement shortly, which will contain the new BPAY Biller code and your new CRN.
Utilising these new unique codes will ensure that any payments made will be accurately assigned to your account.
BPAY payment scheduling is supported by most financial institutions. Please contact your bank for further details if required.
If you already have scheduled BPAY payment in place, it is important that you ensure these details are updated to use the new BPAY Biller Code and CRN.
Payments can be made through Compass, but this does cost the school transactional fees, reducing the funds available to support the school. Where possible, please pay school fees via BPAY or directly at the school office via cash or EFTPOS.
BPAY instructions are included in the letter that was sent out via COMPASS to all families earlier today.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you require assistance.
Hats are back!
August is ‘hats on again’ time in accordance with our Sun Smart School Policy. From the start of this week (Week 4), students will be expected to wear the uniform school hat. Should students be found outside without the school hat at break times, they will be directed to play in designated fully-shaded areas.
Cold and Flu Season
Winter is still upon us and at this time, more than ever especially be conscious of the following:
- Not sending your child to school if they show any signs of being unwell
- Ensuring that your child has nourishing food for breakfast, recess and lunch to fuel their bodies and to guard against Winter ‘bugs’ and germs
- Ensuring that your child wears appropriate clothing to school to match the cold conditions.
- Regularly remind your child about hand washing routines and coughing/sneezing etiquette to help prevent the spread of germs.
Illness
To assist in preventing the spread of illness, we seek your co-operation in regularly reminding the children about basic hygiene practices including:
Hand Hygiene: frequent washing of hands with soap and water.
Coughing/Sneezing Etiquette: covering of the mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, disposing of the tissue in the bin and washing hands. Alternatively, coughing into the elbow.
Wishing you a wonderful week.
John O'Brien
Assistant Principal

Parent Year-Level WhatsApp Groups
The parent WhatsApp groups at Rosary have been a great success since their introduction in 2020. A parent WhatsApp group exists for each year-level at the school. These WhatsApp groups operate on an annual basis, with a new year-level WhatsApp group established at the start of each school year.
The Rosary Community Council endorses the use of WhatsApp amongst the parent groups to promote open communication, positive health and wellbeing, lift spirits, share strategies, have a laugh or two, and to generally support each other.
If you are not currently a member of your child’s year-level WhatsApp group and wish to join, you can join via the link in the Compass Portal. This can be found under ‘My News’ (or ‘Latest News’), titled ‘Year X parent group – Class Contact and Parent WhatsApp Group Information’.
By agreeing to join the WhatsApp group, parents are agreeing to be respectful towards everyone in the group. To ensure the safe and proper use of WhatsApp within the school community, please find below a reminder of the guidelines that group members should adhere to:
- It is encouraged that parents include their name in their WhatsApp profile.
- Be respectful and courteous.
- Respect people’s opinions - no judgement.
- Rude or offensive members will be blocked.
- No complaints regarding the school or teachers. Any complaints must be communicated through official school channels such as the teacher or Principal.
- Do not share or forward the “Invite to Group” link.
- Respect each other’s privacy. Do not forward or share any post or photo which has been shared within the Group.
- Be circumspect in what you post or share. Remember that once you post, you lose control of whatever it is that you post.
Should you have any queries, please contact the Rosary Community Council: rosarycouncil@gmail.com.
Book Week is Coming! Dress Up Day Friday August 25th!
16 More Days to Book Week Dress Up Day!!
This is just a friendly reminder that Book Week is fast approaching!! With only 16 more sleeps to the dress up day (Friday 25th August). I am looking forward to seeing all the children dress up in their costumes. This can be as simple as dressing up as a 'normal' character from a fiction book or as detailed as having your child dressed in a costume character from a book. Please see me if you are having trouble securing a book that relates to your child's dress-up character.
Our annual Book Fair will be held in the Library from Monday afternoon, August 21st and open from 8.30am - 9am and again at 3.10- 4.30pm every day until Friday 25th August. There will be a large selection of books to purchase for your children with a percentage of sales being returned to the library in books and resources.
Sami Bayly Visit
We are excited to announce that we are lucky enough to have Sami Bayly visiting Rosary on Monday 21st August. Sami Bayly is well known in Australia and internationally for her ‘The Illustrated Encyclopaedia series.’ She has won and been nominated for numerous awards. Students in Years 3-6 will have the opportunity to listen to a presentation by Sami and learn about scientific illustration. Below is a flyer, should you wish to pre-order one of Sami Bayly’s books that she will sign on the day.
Please see the flyer in the newsletter for more information.

Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence. There is no need to adjust times for whole day absences.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school counsellor, is available every Thursday and Friday.
You can refer your child for counselling by contacting the school or filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss this with the counsellor.
Access to the clothing pool will now be as follows:
Monday - All Day (school hours)
Tuesday - Friday - Before and after school only
Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who maintain the space for our community.
Please note: All donations of preloved uniforms (in good wearable condition) are welcome at the front office.
