Principals Report Week 9 Term 3
Dear Parents and Carers
Year 6 Confirmation Celebration
Good luck to our Year 6 students receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this Friday 15 September in our parish church at 6:15pm. This is a very important sacrament for these young adults in our community as they confirm they wish to continue their lives as Christians, following Jesus.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
Our Year 6 students and staff will also participate in their preparation during the Confirmation Retreat Day on Thursday 14 September.
Year 4 Mass on Thursday
We look forward to our Year 4 Mass in the parish church this Thursday 14 September with Fr Mannes. Parents, carers and friends are welcome.
Aboriginal Performance - Monday 11 September
On Monday this week Rosary students were entertained by Sean Choolburra at school. He is recognised as one of Australia's funniest and most enduring Aboriginal comedians. Born in Townsville, QLD, and one of twelve, his comedy is created from a wide variety of life time experiences, stories, and observations.
Aboriginal Literacy/Storytelling - Learning from First Nations People.
This week Rosary classes have access to First Nations Bedtime Stories. Every day classes will be sent a short video of a story told by a First Nations Elder, which can be viewed during the week. The stories covered include topics such as stories from the Dreaming and bush medicine. The stories bring First Nations knowledge and stories into homes and classrooms around Australia.

Visit by Ambassador of Bhutan
On Tuesday this week I was delighted to welcome the Ambassador of Bhutan to Australia, His Excellency, Mr. Sonam Tobgay to Rosary School. A number of our senior students from Bhutan showed Mr Tobgay around the school, proudly showing him our learning spaces and facilities. They particularly enjoyed taking him to their classrooms and meeting their teachers. Mr Tobgay also visited some EALD lessons with Mrs Watson, where students with English as an Additional Language or Dialect, receive additional support learning English.
Rosary has a growing number of students of Bhutanese background and the purpose of the visit was to discuss ways that all Rosary school students, staff and members of our community can work together enhancing learning and cultural appreciation and understanding.
Mr Tobgay presented Rosary School with a lovely gift to mark the visit, an album with colourful Bhutanese stamps and images. We will display this in the school.
R U OK Day? - A conversation could change a life!
The 2023 theme is “I'm here to hear”, reinforcing the fact that you don't need qualifications to talk with someone about mental health. A conversation really could change a life.
R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you ok?’ and support those struggling with life’s ups and downs.
R U OK? is a public health promotion charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. R U OK? Day focuses on building the motivation, confidence and skills of the help-giver – the person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life.
R U OK? contributes to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks – friends, family and colleagues - to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they're in crisis.
We encourage you to have that meaningful conversation with someone close to you or someone you know.
Good Luck Eve for ACT Public Speaking Rostrum Final - Monday 18 September
Good luck to Eve Andonovski (Year 4) for her Rostrum Final against the best primary students in the ACT. It has been an incredible journey for Eve to make it to the final and we hope her speech, which must be a new topic, goes well.
Spiritus Faith Formation Program in Rome
Good Luck to our Religious Education Coordinator, Mrs Liz Higgins, who will travel to Rome mid next week to attend the Spiritus Faith Formation Program in Rome. The two-week program in the upcoming school holidays will take place at the Australian Catholic University and other special places in Rome. Approximately 30 participants from Catholic Education and the Archdiocese will attend. This is a wonderful opportunity for Liz and an experience that will deepen her faith and offer new knowledge and insights to bring to her role at Rosary.
Rosary Winter Sports Success
Congratulations to our respective Rosary Netball and Rugby clubs on their 2023 winter seasons. All of our teams competed and performed very well. Finals were held in recent weeks with two of our teams competing in the local finals. Well done to:
Year 5/Year 6 Rosary ‘Ravens’ Girls Netball Team - Congratulations to our senior girls netball team. They had a stellar season and reached the semi-finals this year, playing a very fast and high standard game against GNC Lightning. They went down in this match against the top, undefeated team, but they did Rosary and themselves very proud!
Under 12 Rosary Eagles Boys Rugby Team - Congratulations to our Under 11 rugby team who played Division One this year consisting of players from Year 5 and Year 6. The boys had an awesome season defeating most clubs during the season. They played in the semi-finals recently against the top-team Marist. Rosary put in a fine effort and pushed Marist but went down on the scoreboard in the end. Rosary is proud of the players' efforts again this season.
Thank you to all of our coaches, managers, referees and supporters for encouraging our players to participate in their respective sports this year.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless.

This year’s Book Week was an incredible success!! Thank you to you, our wonderful families and children for the enthusiasm, engagement and costumes that made this a truly memorable week.
I would also like to thank our dedicated staff who went above and beyond to help make Book Week so amazing! Your willingness to support and participate in the author/illustrator visits and parade, brought the magic of literature to life for our students. A big thank you to the staff who helped me over the course of the week with setting up for assembly, preparing the students, taking photographs, organising the parade route and many other things. A special mention to Mrs Colleen Welsh for organising the reminder messages through Compass.
We are very fortunate to have amazing Year 6 Library Monitors who were very busy throughout Book Week. They assisted at the Book Fair, while helping in their normal library duties. A special mention to our Library Monitors that led the school during the Book Week assembly, participated in our Book Week play, lead our Book Week Parade, and presented the ‘Who Am I? s ‘at morning assembly.
Thank you for your support of our Book Fair this year. It was extremely successful and has resulted in many books being purchased for the students to enjoy and love. A special thank you to Mrs Nicole Arndt who volunteered her time at the Book Fair and Mrs Sarah Nascimben for her assistance in finalising the Book Fair.
Book Week is a reminder of the power of storytelling and joy of reading, and I am so grateful to the Rosary community for supporting this event and making it memorable for our students.
Library Books!!
Please keep an eye out for any Library books or school readers that may be sitting somewhere in the home. We would appreciate their prompt return. Thank you!
Thank You!!
I just wanted to thank the Fryar and Gould families for their generous book donations to our Library. Your donation encourages and supports the love of reading and learning in our students. THANK YOU!!!
