The BIG Challenge 2023 - Please return sponsorship cards each Thursday
Every year we participate in a major fundraiser for the school. Once again, this year we will be participating in the ‘BIG Challenge’.
On Friday 17 November 2023 the students will participate in a series of challenges (e.g. skipping, relay racing, aerobics, goal shooting etc) throughout the morning in order to earn their sponsorship donations. All students are encouraged to seek sponsorship via the sponsorship card.
Sponsorship Cards
- Sponsorship donations are sought for participating in the challenge.
- Please secure cash donations in the plastic zip-lock bag and write the sponsor’s name and amount.
- An online payment is available and is preferred. If using the Qkr! option, enter Childs Name and Class as the reference. Once you have made the payment, please also write the amount donated on this card in the Qkr!
- Please return the sponsorship card each Thursday to help the students achieve their weekly incentive.
Hints for students when asking for sponsorship:
- If your family chooses to ask friends/work colleagues/neighbours, always have an adult accompany you.
- Remember to be polite and explain that you are participating in The BIG Challenge at school as an alternative fundraiser to our annual Walkathon/Fete.
- If the sponsor is using the Qkr! option, enter Childs Name and Class as the reference. Once you have made the payment, please also write the amount donated on this card in the Qkr!
- If the sponsor is donating cash, write the amount in the cash
- Always remember to put the money in the snap-lock bag and seal it straight away to keep it safe.
- Please be polite and say “Thank you!”
Incentives
- There will be a weekly $$$ target for the whole school to earn Uniform Free Fridays. Every Thursday morning (weeks 2-6), students are invited to bring in their cards and sponsorship donations to boost the tally.
- Cards will be returned each week to allow for further donations and even more chances for Uniform Free Fridays.
- If we achieve our overall goal of $12,000, students will receive a FUN DAY.
Prizes
- Everyone who raises money will receive a small participation prize.
- Everyone who participates will receive a free sausage sizzle.
- Everyone who participates will be in the draw to receive a MAJOR PRIZE (one per grade).
We hope that you will be able to support this major fundraiser event by sponsoring your children.
Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge
I am very proud to announce that our students successfully completed the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge in the three categories we participated in! Rosary has participated in this challenge since its inception, except for one year during COVID times. This year’s challenge has been particularly demanding as it meant every child had to read 30 or more books from March to early August. Our students have logged all their reading and feel very proud of their achievements. Ari Tagliapietra, Esther McCarthy and Dorothy Fryar accompanied Mr Walker and myself to the award’s ceremony at the National Library of Australia. The students had the opportunity to see some local authors and were fortunate enough to meet and pose for a photo with Jack Heath, author of the ‘Liars’ series, ‘Countdown to Danger’ series and numerous books in the ‘Minutes of Danger and Mystery’ series. The students enjoyed representing their fellow students, bringing back to school the certificates which will be displayed in the Front Office and book vouchers. A special thank you to
Mrs Vincent, the teachers, parents, and students for their support with the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge this year. Congratulations!
Book Bistro
Last week, the library was transformed into a dining experience. Students were given the opportunity to ‘taste’ (explore) a diverse range of books with chef Monsieur Book-a-lot. At the Book Bistro, students delved into the world of books and genres, allowing them to explore a vast range of literature available. This learning experience emphasises that reading is a personal journey; it encourages students to choose books that resonate with them and allows them to foster a sense of ownership over their reading choices.
Thank you for continuing to encourage and support your children by discussing their reading material and developing a culture of reading in your homes.

If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school counsellor, is available every Thursday and Friday.
You can refer your child for counselling by contacting the school or filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss this with the counsellor.
Access to the clothing pool will now be as follows:
Monday - All Day (school hours)
Tuesday - Friday - Before and after school only
Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who maintain the space for our community.
