Principals Report Week 4 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to Week 4.
All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day
This week we celebrate these special two annual Holy days in the Catholic Church. All Saints' Day celebrates the holy men and women in Heaven, those known and unknown by the Church, on November 1, whereas on November 2 All Souls' Day honours all of the faithful departed and we pray for a peaceful journey for our loved ones from Purgatory to Heaven.
All Saints Day Prayer
Dear God, thank you for the example of the Saints. I desire to join in their company, worshipping you forever in Heaven. Please help me follow their footsteps, and yours, Jesus Christ. Please help me to devote myself, and all that I do, to Your glory, and to the service of my neighbours. Amen.
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
60th Anniversary Cocktail Party Celebration
We look forward to the 60th Anniversary Cocktail Party celebration this Saturday evening! I hope that many of you are attending and joining a large number of staff in attendance too. Let’s celebrate our Dominican traditions and examples of past members of our community, the wonderful people involved at Rosary that make our school what it is today and work together to continue the vision for the future of our school. Enjoy!
Art Showcase and Auction
To help celebrate our celebration this weekend each class has designed and painted a special piece of art that will be auctioned to raise money for our commemorative 60th Anniversary mural to be painted in a key location soon.
Every child in every class contributed to the painting of their masterpiece! There is a touch of their own personality and creativity in each painting. They are ‘one off’ paintings that celebrate their class and our anniversary.
Don’t miss your chance to secure a lovely piece of art to hang at home or your workplace! Every painting is up for sale through a bidding process. You don’t have to be at the cocktail party to make a bid on one of the awesome paintings. You can view each class painting online at:
https://aus.givergy.com/rosary
The class artworks are on display for you to view in the school corridor this Thursday and Friday. Drop in and have a look.
Thank you to our wonderful 60th Anniversary organising committee and all of the volunteers involved. More thank yous to follow after the big event.
Year 2 Questacon Excursion
Congratulations to our Year 2 students and staff for taking part in the excursion to Questacon on Monday. Questacon is a favourite location for an excursion and is always a lot of fun! Everyone had a great time.
Year 1 Liturgy this Thursday
This Thursday Year 1 students will be celebrating a liturgy together in our parish church. Good luck to the students, staff and visitors as they gather and worship together.
Good luck to our Year 5 students and teachers for their assembly this Friday afternoon in the school hall. This will be a great opportunity for the students to showcase their learning and events this year. Thank you to Mrs Mogan and Mr Read for all of their hard work and preparation with the students.
Kindergarten Excursion to National Arboretum
Good luck to our Kindergarten students and teachers for their excursion to the National Arboretum on Monday 6 November. This is a wonderful place for an excursion and adventure.

Welcome Australian Catholic University (ACU) Students
This week Rosary School welcomes 4 ACU pre-service primary education students to work in our classrooms. They are appointed an associate teacher in one class and will support and co-teach in one of these classrooms - Year 4 Bangkok, Year 1 Vienna, Year 5 Panama and Kinder Nagoya over the next 3 weeks. It is wonderful to host these students and work with them as they develop their teaching experience and further their studies in primary education.
I wish you all a great week ahead. Happy Anniversary!
God Bless.

Council members met for both their usual meeting (Week 2 of Term 4) and also the AGM. Congratulations to our new executive members for 2024 – Chair James Mathews, Deputy Chair James Macpherson and Treasurer David Battey. The role of Secretary remains unfilled at this stage. The current executive will commence handover to the new members with the official changeover being at the end of our last meeting for the year. I know you will support the 2024-25 team in their endeavours to support the school. A new teacher nomination will be provided at the next meeting when we will thank Kath Watson for her invaluable input.
At our meeting we approved the expenditure of previously quarantined funds for the replacement of the oval irrigation system and also the renovations of the oval surface. This is necessary particularly with a long hot summer ahead of us. The oval must be irrigated otherwise the playing surface will be hard and dry and pose a safety issue. The current irrigation system is only just operable and leaks and does not water the whole oval area. Some great work has been done on getting this sorted with quotations and planning etc.
We were provided an update on the 60th Anniversary Cocktail Party which promises to be a great evening. Congratulations to all involved in organising this event for parents, staff and people previously associated with Rosary.
It is great to hear that our staffing levels for 2024 will be consistent with those of 2023 as will classes being 15 and enrolments predicted to be around 365.
The school is working on the next 3 year strategic plan which will be curriculum driven.
The BIG Challenge 2023 - Please return sponsorship cards each Thursday
Every year we participate in a major fundraiser for the school. Once again, this year we will be participating in the ‘BIG Challenge’.
On Friday 17 November 2023 the students will participate in a series of challenges (e.g. skipping, relay racing, aerobics, goal shooting etc) throughout the morning in order to earn their sponsorship donations. All students are encouraged to seek sponsorship via the sponsorship card.
Sponsorship Cards
- Sponsorship donations are sought for participating in the challenge.
- Please secure cash donations in the plastic zip-lock bag and write the sponsor’s name and amount.
- An online payment is available and is preferred. If using the Qkr! option, enter Childs Name and Class as the reference. Once you have made the payment, please also write the amount donated on this card in the Qkr!
- Please return the sponsorship card each Thursday to help the students achieve their weekly incentive.
Hints for students when asking for sponsorship:
- If your family chooses to ask friends/work colleagues/neighbours, always have an adult accompany you.
- Remember to be polite and explain that you are participating in The BIG Challenge at school as an alternative fundraiser to our annual Walkathon/Fete.
- If the sponsor is using the Qkr! option, enter Childs Name and Class as the reference. Once you have made the payment, please also write the amount donated on this card in the Qkr!
- If the sponsor is donating cash, write the amount in the cash
- Always remember to put the money in the snap-lock bag and seal it straight away to keep it safe.
- Please be polite and say “Thank you!”
Incentives
- There will be a weekly $$$ target for the whole school to earn Uniform Free Fridays. Every Thursday morning (weeks 2-6), students are invited to bring in their cards and sponsorship donations to boost the tally.
- Cards will be returned each week to allow for further donations and even more chances for Uniform Free Fridays.
- If we achieve our overall goal of $12,000, students will receive a FUN DAY.
Prizes
- Everyone who raises money will receive a small participation prize.
- Everyone who participates will receive a free sausage sizzle.
- Everyone who participates will be in the draw to receive a MAJOR PRIZE (one per grade).
We hope that you will be able to support this major fundraiser event by sponsoring your children.
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. If your child is a suffers symptoms frequently, you may like to consider treating them before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence. There is no need to adjust times for whole day absences.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school counsellor, is available every Thursday and Friday.
You can refer your child for counselling by contacting the school or filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss this with the counsellor.
