Principals Report Week 5 Term 4
Dear Parents and Carers
60th Anniversary Cocktail Party Success
What a terrific evening it was on Saturday for our cocktail party celebration. More than 130 people attended and everyone enjoyed the company, music, stories, dancing and auctions. The venue at Lucky’s Speakeasy at QT was perfect for the occasion, it had a level of sophistication but also very informal.
Thank you to our amazing organising committee for all of their creativity and hard work preparing for the event. It truly was a lovely celebration.

Thank you to all of the current and past parents, carers, friends of Rosary and staff for supporting the event and the auction items up for grabs. The class artworks were very popular with each piece receiving a number of bids prior to sale. The other auction items and memorabilia were also snapped up by keen buyers. Thank you.
All money raised goes to support the school, in particular a special 60th anniversary mural to grace the peace gates side of the school when the work is commissioned.
The 60 trees for 60 years initiative of Rosary was also launched at the cocktail party on Saturday night! The mature trees will be planted around the school grounds in many areas to increase our green space and canopy footprint. This has many benefits for our school grounds, the people that use our space and the local Watson environment.
Various species will be planted and you can purchase a tree by contacting the school office - donations to buy a tree essentially cost $200 for tree, transport, establishment to get started. More than 30 trees have been purchased so far but there are still many available. You will be able to select your tree from the available species selected and you can come along and assist with planting the tree and its care if you wish. Thanks to James McPherson for driving this project.
Approval for the Rosary School Oval and Playground Upgrade Project Granted
I am pleased to advise that the contractor and costs for the new irrigation system and oval surface upgrade received approval this week.
The Rosary Community Council has worked very hard over a number of years to raise funds for this project and develop a concept that will rejuvenate and transform the student’s outdoor play spaces for years to come.
You can see that the oval is very dry and that the existing watering system does not effectively do its job. To benefit from the current growing season and warm weather, work on the new project is expected to begin before school ends this year and continue through summer until it is re-opened early in 2024, possibly in-time for when the students return to school.
Thank you to Chris Allard and James McPherson, from our Community Council, who have steered this project to this point. It will be amazing when it is completed. The nature play aspect of the project will also be included in the project providing creative, free play spaces for students.
Remembrance Day - 11 November
With Remembrance Day 2023 occurring on Saturday this week, the school students and staff will acknowledge this important event and day in their classrooms on Friday 10 November. There will be a special presentation by our Year 6 leaders with each class. Thank you to Mr Chris Evans and the Year 6 students for their involvement.
Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day commemorates the signing of the peace agreement that ended World War I at 11am on 11 November 1918. It is a time to remember and honour the memory of those who served, are currently serving, and those we have lost to the cause. Lest We Forget.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all past and current serving members of our defence forces and peacekeeping personnel. To achieve peace and stability in our world we still need people to be united and open to collaboration, cooperation, sustainability, subsidiarity and love.

This is a very exciting milestone in the educational journey!

We are looking forward to our Big Challenge Day this year on Friday 17 November. Students will challenge themselves to complete a number of sporting and physical challenges on the day, in turn raising funds for the school for their efforts. There will also be a sausage sizzle and a few other fun things happening!
We will be selecting one lucky student to be PRINCIPAL for a day and I will swap roles and be a STUDENT for a day! This will not occur next Friday but will happen at a later date if we reach our fundraising target!

The BIG Challenge 2023 - Please return sponsorship cards each Thursday
Every year we participate in a major fundraiser for the school. Once again, this year we will be participating in the ‘BIG Challenge’.
On Friday 17 November 2023 the students will participate in a series of challenges (e.g. skipping, relay racing, aerobics, goal shooting etc) throughout the morning in order to earn their sponsorship donations. All students are encouraged to seek sponsorship via the sponsorship card.
Sponsorship Cards
- Sponsorship donations are sought for participating in the challenge.
- Please secure cash donations in the plastic zip-lock bag and write the sponsor’s name and amount.
- An online payment is available and is preferred. If using the Qkr! option, enter Childs Name and Class as the reference. Once you have made the payment, please also write the amount donated on this card in the Qkr!
- Please return the sponsorship card each Thursday to help the students achieve their weekly incentive.
Hints for students when asking for sponsorship:
- If your family chooses to ask friends/work colleagues/neighbours, always have an adult accompany you.
- Remember to be polite and explain that you are participating in The BIG Challenge at school as an alternative fundraiser to our annual Walkathon/Fete.
- If the sponsor is using the Qkr! option, enter Childs Name and Class as the reference. Once you have made the payment, please also write the amount donated on this card in the Qkr!
- If the sponsor is donating cash, write the amount in the cash
- Always remember to put the money in the snap-lock bag and seal it straight away to keep it safe.
- Please be polite and say “Thank you!”
Incentives
- There will be a weekly $$$ target for the whole school to earn Uniform Free Fridays. Every Thursday morning (weeks 2-6), students are invited to bring in their cards and sponsorship donations to boost the tally.
- Cards will be returned each week to allow for further donations and even more chances for Uniform Free Fridays.
- If we achieve our overall goal of $12,000, students will receive a FUN DAY.
Prizes
- Everyone who raises money will receive a small participation prize.
- Everyone who participates will receive a free sausage sizzle.
- Everyone who participates will be in the draw to receive a MAJOR PRIZE (one per grade).
We hope that you will be able to support this major fundraiser event by sponsoring your children.
Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive.
If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the First Aid area.
Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. If your child is a suffers symptoms frequently, you may like to consider treating them before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Whole Day Absences via Parent Portal
Whole Day Absences
If your child is absent from school for a whole day or longer, please submit details of the absence via the Parent Portal. This should be completed within 7 days of the absence. There is no need to adjust times for whole day absences.
If your child will only be absent for a partial day, the absence will be recorded as your child is signed in or out via the kiosk at the front office. You do not need to add an early pick up or late drop off via the Parent Portal.
Unexplained absences for your child will be displayed on your homepage when you log in to Parent Portal.
If an unexplained absence appears that you believe to be incorrect, please send an email to the front office for investigation.
The school counsellor, is available every Thursday and Friday.
You can refer your child for counselling by contacting the school via email or phone.
You will be contacted for consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss this with the counsellor.
Access to the clothing pool will now be as follows:
Monday - All Day (school hours)
Tuesday - Friday - Before and after school only
Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who maintain the space for our community.
