Dear Parents and Friends,
SAVE THE DATE – Saturday 19 OCTOBER ROSARY HOSTS
THE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS NETBALL CARNIVAL!
ONLY 16 school days to go!!!
This is a once in a 20-year opportunity to raise vital funds for our school.
Think of it as a FETE only DOUBLE THE SIZE!
We will need all hands on deck on the day (and some the day before and post carnival) so please look out for a volunteer roster coming soon.
It’s official – this will be the last Catholic Schools Netball Carnival ever
so let’s go out with a BANG!
This event is NOT a fundraiser for Netball but IS an important fundraiser for the school. We have the opportunity to raise anywhere between $30,000 to $50,000+ to benefit the education of our children!
Please set aside the day in support of our wonderful school.
Any and all offers of help will be appreciated.
We will be looking for people to run and operate stalls in a similar way to a fete. Of course, any donations of time, services or goods are always welcome and highly appreciated.
Special thanks to the parents and teachers who have been working hard behind the scenes for some time now to bring everything together.
It promises to be a great day of family fun so let’s make the most of this final opportunity for our school.
To make contact regarding the Carnival, please use the email address: CSNC2019@cg.catholic.edu.au
Please continue to pray for the students from our school and parish who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next Friday evening at 6pm in Rosary Church. The Retreat Day, where students make their final preparations, will be held on Thursday next week. The Sacrament itself is always such a special occasion – the evening glow seems to add something extra special to the ceremony – and everyone is warmly invited to attend to support the students and families who have committed to witnessing to their Catholic faith in this significant way.
A Formation session for students preparing to make their First Reconciliation and their parents will take place at 5.30pm this afternoon in Rosary Church. The Reconciliation Commitment Mass will be held at 10am on Sunday 22nd September. We ask for your prayers of support for the children and families concerned as they make this journey towards reception of the Sacrament.
On Tuesday 24 September, after school until 6pm, the school will be open for Learning Journeys. This is an invitation to parents and grandparents and other significant adults in the children’s lives, to come along and see the work that the children have been doing in their classrooms, to celebrate achievements and set goals for future learning. This is also another way of reporting to parents with regard to student progress and achievement. Our hope is that it will be an enjoyable and fruitful time for all concerned.
We are experiencing a high number of students coming to the front office for snacks and lunches when they have left their lunchboxes at home or are hungry because they didn’t have enough to eat. Please ensure that your child has plenty of healthy food choices in their lunch box to get them through the day and check that the lunchbox is actually in the school bag. Should a child present without recess or lunch, popcorn or rice crackers, a Vegemite or jam sandwich are the only options provided and parents will be billed accordingly. Students will not be given money to go to the canteen to purchase other items in the case of an ‘emergency’ lunch.
A reminder that the Summer uniform is worn in Term 4. Please check the wardrobe and visit the Clothing Pool if any items are needed. I encourage parents to go through children’s Summer uniforms this weekend so that any unwanted, good-quality items can be donated to the clothing pool in time for others to look at before the end of term. It is important that donated items are clean and in good condition. Each item of uniform from the Clothing Pool is priced at $5 so it’s a great place to shop!
We will have a transition period of two weeks at the start of Term 4 to cater for the unpredictable weather. Likewise, if it is really hot over the next couple of weeks and your child feels too hot in Winter attire, the Summer uniform can be worn.
Please spread the word to all you know who have children of pre-school age that we still have a few places available for next year in Kindergarten. School fees should remain largely the same for the next few years allowing for the usual minimal increases in line with normal rates of inflation. Your assistance in spreading the message is much appreciated because we know that ‘word of mouth’ is so powerful.
Thought for the Week:
“Arm yourself with prayer rather than a sword; wear humility rather than fine clothes.”
Farewell for Mrs Morris
As I’m sure you are aware, Mrs Yvonne Morris retired earlier this term. We will be hosting a farewell for her on Thursday 19 September at 2pm in the school hall. Afternoon tea for Yvonne, special guests and the parent community will be held immediately following the farewell tribute at 2.30pm. For catering purposes, please RSVP to the front office if you will be attending: firstname.lastname@example.org
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Faith Formation Evening TONIGHT
If your child is a baptised catholic and you would like him/her to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, please attend the preparation/formation evening, with your child, TONIGHT @ 5:30pm. Please also attend the Commitment Mass on Sunday 22 September @ 10:00am. Please make these commitments a priority.
Confirmation Reminders for Candidates
If you have not returned any of the registration card, copy of the Baptismal Certificate, resource fee, letters x 2 or assignment, please do so ASAP.
Peace and best wishes

Congratulations to the following students who received a VERITAS award in Week 7:
Friday 13th September
The daily trips to and from school are terrific opportunities for kids to be active. The Ride or Walk to School Program aims to make the most of these opportunities and increase walking, cycling, scootering and use of public transport among school students in Canberra.
Rosary has been an active participant in the program for many years. This term we will continue to participate by walking to school together. We will meet at the Watson shops and depart at 8:30am. Students, parents, carers and siblings are welcome to join us.
Active Wear Day
Friday 27th September – Last Day of Term 3
Donation Day for Catholic Schools Netball Carnival
In preparation for the Catholic Schools Netball Carnival, we are celebrating the last day of the term by wearing ‘Active Wear’. In exchange for being out of uniform, we are asking students / families to donate a packet of Zooper Doopers or a packet of fruit boxes (poppers). These will be sold at the carnival to raise funds for our school. Students need to hand these to their classroom teacher on Friday morning.
Thank you for your support.
WE NEED SLICES BY END OF WEEK 1, TERM 4
Dust off your cookbooks and pull on your aprons.
We need you to share your favourite slices with us for sale at the Catholic Schools Netball Carnival being held on Saturday 19th October. Rosary will be holding a slice stall (cupcakes and cookies are already taken care of) on the day and all money raised will come back to the school.
We will be sending packaging and specifications home with each child on Monday of week 1, term 4 so for now if you can start thinking about what it is you would like to make as a contribution.
WE NEED BOXES! LOTS OF BOXES!
Our Catering Committee will need approximately 150 A4 copy paper boxes (eg. Reflex paper boxes or the like) to prepare team lunches for the Netball Carnival in October.
It would be a great help if anyone with access to these boxes (with lids), either at home or in their workspace, can bring them in to the school so that we can set them aside in preparation for the carnival. Please bring as many as you can - we will be continuing to collect all term!
Maker Days- Term 4
In term 4 we will run Maker Days in our Makerspace Invention Lab from weeks 1-6 (on Thursdays). Children are welcome to participate in any of the following activities:
- Video game creation on Scratch
- Cardboard and recycled materials creation
- Items made from combination of string/wool creations (can be a mixture of knitting, pom poms, plaits, and any other string creation)
- Student suggestions approved by teacher
Children will be expected to submit a design to outline their idea and this can be edited/added to as the process goes along. They should have some idea of what they are aiming to make before they start, not just make it up as they go.
Children from Kindergarten to Year 6 are welcome, but will be asked to register interest in Week 1 so that we have an idea on numbers.
The first week will be for design only, and weeks 2-6 will be for creating. Children may work independently or in groups.
I look forward to seeing many creative designs and creations.
