Principals Report Week 9 Term 3
Dear Parents and Friends,
SAVE THE DATE – Saturday 19 OCTOBER ROSARY HOSTS
THE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS NETBALL CARNIVAL!
ONLY 11 school days to go!!!
This is a once in a 20-year opportunity to raise vital funds for our school.
Think of it as a FETE only DOUBLE THE SIZE!
We will need all hands on deck on the day (and some the day before and post carnival) so please look out for a volunteer roster coming soon.
It’s official – this will be the last Catholic Schools Netball Carnival ever so let’s go out with a BANG!
This event is NOT a fundraiser for Netball but IS an important fundraiser for the school. We have the opportunity to raise anywhere between $30,000 to $50,000+ to benefit the education of our children!
Please set aside the day in support of our wonderful school.
Any and all offers of help will be appreciated.
We will be looking for people to run and operate stalls in a similar way to a fete. Of course, any donations of time, services or goods are always welcome and highly appreciated.
Special thanks to the parents and teachers who have been working hard behind the scenes for some time now to bring everything together.
It promises to be a great day of family fun so let’s make the most of this final opportunity for our school.
To make contact regarding the Carnival, please use the email address: CSNC2019@cg.catholic.edu.au
Sacraments
Please pray for the students who are making final preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Their Retreat Day was held today. I sincerely thank all the adults involved for their generous support and spiritual guidance. The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place tomorrow night at 6pm in Rosary Church. I take this opportunity to wish all the candidates every blessing on this very special occasion in their lives.
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Reconciliation Formation Evening last week. Thanks also to Mrs Higgins and Father Kieran who led the session and to the Year 2 and School of Religion teachers for their support. Please keep the students and their families in your prayers as they prepare for the Sacrament which will be conferred on Monday 4th October at 5.30pm in Rosary Church.
2019 NAPLAN Reports
NAPLAN Student Reports for parents will be sent home on Thursday next week via the students in Years 3 and 5. The reports provide a point-in-time analysis of student achievement. The tests were conducted in May and we expect that every child will have made further progress since then. It is important that parents discuss the NAPLAN results with the class teachers should there be any concerns so that the results can be viewed ‘on balance’ with other school-based assessments. Whilst we do not believe that NAPLAN testing is the ‘be all and end all’, I am very pleased to be able to report that, as a school, we have performed very well. A detailed analysis of the results will take place at school level once the data is available in electronic form. Please file the Student Reports in a safe place as they may be required in the future for enrolment into high schools.
REPEAT NOTICES:
Learning Journeys
On Tuesday 24 September, after school until 6pm, the school will be open for Learning Journeys. This is an invitation to parents and grandparents and other significant adults in the children’s lives, to come along and see the work that the children have been doing in their classrooms, to celebrate achievements and set goals for future learning. This is also another way of reporting to parents with regard to student progress and achievement. Our hope is that it will be an enjoyable and fruitful time for all concerned.
Summer Uniform
A reminder that the Summer uniform is worn in Term 4. Please check the wardrobe and visit the Clothing Pool if any items are needed. I encourage parents to go through children’s Summer uniforms this weekend so that any unwanted, good-quality items can be donated to the clothing pool in time for others to look at before the end of term. It is important that donated items are clean and in good condition. Each item of uniform from the Clothing Pool is priced at $5 so it’s a great place to shop!
We will have a transition period of two weeks at the start of Term 4 to cater for the unpredictable weather. Likewise, if it is really hot over the next couple of weeks and your child feels too hot in Winter attire, the Summer uniform can be worn.
Thought for the Week:
“Let us trust in God’s work. With him we can do great things; he will give us the joy of being his disciples, his witnesses.”
Pope Francis
Confirmation
A special thank you to Andrew Blakey (REC Merici), for organising 50 students from Year 9 to run a session for our Year 6 students today. An enjoyable time was had by all!
Please pray for the following students who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at Holy Rosary Church tomorrow at 6pm. All welcome!

Swooping Magpie
Please take care while walking and riding to and from school. We have had a report of a swooping magpie in the region of the Antill St crossing and bus stop. It is protecting the area from Antill St across the ACU lawned area to the top of the staff car park.
The ACT government have provided the following safety tips:
Magpies can swoop during the spring while they build nests, lay and protect eggs and raise their young.
Not all magpies will swoop but some will as a natural instinct to protect their territory (area around their nest) and their young.
Follow these simple tips to help avoid being swooped this Spring:
- Walk through the magpies' territory quickly, but don't run
- Protect your head with an umbrella, hat or helmet and your eyes with glasses
- Look towards the magpie
- Attach flags or streamers on a pole to your backpack or bike
Warning signs will be placed in troublesome areas.
To report troublesome areas contact Access Canberra on 13 22 81.
Active Wear Day
Friday 27th September – Last Day of Term 3
Donation Day for Catholic Schools Netball Carnival
Dear Parents,
In preparation for the Catholic Schools Netball Carnival, we are celebrating the last day of the term by wearing ‘Active Wear’. In exchange for being out of uniform, we are asking students / families to donate a packet of Zooper Doopers or a packet of fruit boxes (poppers). These will be sold at the carnival to raise funds for our school. Students need to hand these to their classroom teacher on Friday morning.
Thank you for your support.

Boxes for Netball Carnival - Target Reached
Thank you to all in the school community that pitched in and provided copy paper boxes for use at the Netball Carnival. We now have sufficient boxes and do not need any more to be supplied.
Thank you again for your overwhelming support!
Netball Carnival Request - Slices
WE NEED SLICES BY END OF WEEK 1, TERM 4
Dust off your cookbooks and pull on your aprons.
We need you to share your favourite slices with us for sale at the Catholic Schools Netball Carnival being held on Saturday 19th October. Rosary will be holding a slice stall (cupcakes and cookies are already taken care of) on the day and all money raised will come back to the school.
We will be sending packaging and specifications home with each child on Monday of week 1, term 4 so for now if you can start thinking about what it is you would like to make as a contribution.
OZtag - Under 9's Team Players Wanted
Oztag is a non-tackling version of rugby played with 8 players each side. It’s similar to touch football.
After last years successful year we are putting together an under 9’s team (Born 2010 or before) for the summer competition in Kaleen on Wednesday afternoon.
We have a maximum of 4 spots left to fill.
Please contact me if your child is interested.
