Principals Report Week 1 Term 4
Dear Parents and Friends,
ROSARY HOSTS
THE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS NETBALL CARNIVAL
THIS SATURDAY!
We will need all hands on deck on the day (and some tomorrow and post carnival). It’s not too late to volunteer.
If you haven’t already signed up on the volunteer register please click on the link below:
You can sign up for as many time slots as you like!
Many people have been working tirelessly for a number of months in the background but we need everyone’s support to make this event a success.
To make contact regarding the Carnival, please use the email address: CSNC2019@cg.catholic.edu.au
Welcome back!
I hope that everyone had opportunities to enjoy special time with family and friends over the break and to re-charge the batteries ahead of this final busy term of the school year. We’ve had a very settled start to the term. We welcome new students and families – Lysenko, Hawkett, Pistorious and Reid – who have joined us. We hope they will enjoy many happy years of association with Rosary School.
Catholic Schools Netball Carnival
This major event, hosted by Rosary this year, will take place this coming Saturday 19th October at the Calwell Playing Fields. I wish all the teams from our school all the very best of luck. I know the children will behave beautifully and be very encouraging of each other and gracious in both victory and defeat. I thank all our parents who are acting as coaches and managers for the teams on the day. We are most grateful for your support of our school’s entries.
Improvements to the Grounds
Over the holiday break, there was some work done to improve the state of the grounds. Speedhumps were installed at both the entry and exit gates to the courts and the line-markings to the courts and the staff car park were re-done. When driving and parking on the courts, drivers need to adhere to the white line-markings. The students play spaces are marked in orange and a few additional handball courts were added to the blacktop area. The Peace Gates were painted black and a non-slip coating was applied to the area inside the Peace Gates, stretching from the top of the stairs next to the external toilets across the front of the canteen to the hall entry. Sincere thanks are extended to the Community Council for the financial contribution made towards the works out of funds raised by the Walkathon. The work has really made a difference in refreshing the appearance of the school and should assist to make the school environment safer for everyone.
Thought for the Week:
“I don’t regret the things I’ve done. I regret the things I didn’t do when I had the chance.”

Year 5 Mass – thank you!
Year 5 participated in Mass today at ACU Chapel. The theme, ‘God’s work is our work,’ was showcased beautifully in the reflection. The students participated and sang wonderfully. A special thank you to Ann-Maree Hinds and Nicole Rich for their work in preparing the Mass. Thank you also to Fr Kieran for celebrating the Mass and to everyone who was able to attend.
The Rosary
October is the month in the liturgical calendar dedicated to praying the Rosary. At school we are saying one decade of the Rosary each day during this time. If you would like further information about the Rosary, please go to https://www.catholic.org/prayers/rosary.php
2019 World Mission Appeal – Catholic Mission Australia
This month, students across Australia are invited to take part and learn how the Church in Ghana is taking a lead in providing life-saving care to children with a disability and fostering their personal development for a brighter future.
In Ghana there are many children who go to school, hang out with friends and family, and do fun things like sport. Distressingly, some children, especially those with a disability, struggle to have their basic needs met. Essentials such as nutritious food and clean water are lacking, and services such as healthcare, education and even a safe home are not guaranteed.
Thankfully, there are missionaries like Sister Stan Therese Mumuni who are reaching out to provide unconditional love and care to these children when they need it most.
The Nazareth Home for God’s Children in the Diocese of Yendi in Ghana, run by Sister Stan, is a haven where children of all ages are loved and cared for unconditionally. Sister Stan has dedicated the last decade to running this home, which currently cares for 78 boys and girls, providing them with safety, nutritious meals, healthcare and education.
Sister Stan ensures the children receive quality education so that they may one day gain employment and provide for themselves. Her dream is that they will return to their home community and show how the love and support of the Church has empowered them to develop and reach their goals.
The Nazareth Home is one of the many critical initiatives established by the Catholic Church in Ghana to provide a safe home and nourish the lives of the country’s most vulnerable young people. Without the tireless efforts of Sister Stan and other religious and lay missionaries around the country, many children will miss all that life has to offer.
The Bishops and Directors of the Diocesan School Administration have asked every Catholic School in Australia to support Catholic Mission’s work with children. The theme of the appeal this year comes from Isaiah 41:10, ‘Do not fear, for I am with you.’ It reflects the uncertainty that children who are vulnerable face and confirms God’s love and presence in their lives even during difficult or desperate times.
Day of Many Colours Fundraiser – Wednesday 30th October
To support the work of Catholic Mission, students are invited to come to school dressed in one of the colours of the World Mission Rosary in exchange for a GOLD COIN (or more) donation.
World Mission Month - Mass
Next Wednesday, Year 6 will be attending a special Mass at St Christopher’s Cathedral along with other students from our Archdiocese to acknowledge and pray for the work of Catholic Mission throughout the world.
Pope Francis' Prayer for October 2019
Heavenly Father,
when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ
rose from the dead,
he commissioned his followers
to “go and make disciples of all nations”
and you remind us that through our Baptism
we are made sharers in the mission of the Church.
Empower us by the gifts of the Holy Spirit
to be courageous and zealous
in bearing witness to the Gospel,
so that the mission entrusted to the Church,
which is still very far from completion,
may find new and efficacious expressions
that bring life and light to the world.
Help us make it possible for all peoples
to experience the saving love
and mercy of Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever.
Amen
Peace and best wishes

We hope you are all busy baking slices for the carnival on Saturday. You should have received a slice box with instructions earlier in the week. We have spare boxes at the front office if you did not receive one or if you have been very enthusiastic with your baking and require more!
If you are attending the carnival on Saturday, please take your slice with you and drop it off at the slice/treats stall. If you are not attending the carnival, please deliver your slice to the front office on Friday (tomorrow) during school hours.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Friday 18th and Saturday 19th October
We'd really love your help this year so we can make the netball carnival a great success. All we are asking for is just 2 hours of your time so you are still able to watch your kids play. Hayfever season has arrived with the weather being particularly windy and the pollen count high. We have had many children coming to the front office with hayfever symptoms. If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive. If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication form and provide the medication to be stored in the sick bay. Parents will be contacted prior to any medication being administered. On particularly windy days you may like to consider treating your child before they attend school.
The Request to Dispense Medication Form can be accessed via this link: Request to Dispense Medication and on the school website.
Maker Days- Term 4
In term 4 we will run Maker Days in our Makerspace Invention Lab from weeks 1-6 (on Thursdays). Children are welcome to participate in any of the following activities:
- Video game creation on Scratch
- Cardboard and recycled materials creation
- Items made from combination of string/wool creations (can be a mixture of knitting, pom poms, plaits, and any other string creation)
- Student suggestions approved by teacher
Children will be expected to submit a design to outline their idea and this can be edited/added to as the process goes along. They should have some idea of what they are aiming to make before they start, not just make it up as they go.
Children from Kindergarten to Year 6 are welcome, but will be asked to register interest in Week 1 so that we have an idea of numbers.
The first week will be for design only, and weeks 2-6 will be for creating. Children may work independently or in groups.
I look forward to seeing many creative designs and creations.
