Principals Report Week 8 Term 4
Dear Parents and Friends,
Last Sunday was the first Sunday of Advent. This is a season of waiting, many of the words we pray and sing are full of desire, hope and expectation. Advent is a season to prepare for Christmas, when we remember Christ’s first coming at Bethlehem. We remember the call of Jesus to his followers to make our world a peaceful and loving place.
Semester Two Reports
Student reports will be available for parents to collect between 2pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday 11th December. Only the parent to whom the report is addressed will be able to collect the Semester Report from the Front Office unless a delegate has written authorisation from the parent to collect on their behalf. Any reports not personally collected that afternoon will be sent in the mail. Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations are optional following the final report. Parents may make an appointment to see a teacher by contacting the front office.
Readers/Library Books
Staff are now collecting all home readers and library books. We would appreciate all families taking a very close look at home to find any outstanding school readers or library books and returning them as soon as possible.
Thought for the Week:
“Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned or worn. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.”
Denis Waitley
REPEAT NOTICES:
Candy Canes & Christmas Cards
At this time of the year, children like to give one another candy canes and Christmas cards which is a lovely thing to do. However, we ask children to place cards into their bags as soon as they receive them so that they don’t become lost and we ask them to take the candy canes home to eat. We inform the children that it is not appropriate to eat candy canes at school for a few reasons:
- Parents provide certain foods and expect that their children will eat these foods and not fill up on ‘other’ things
- Parents need to know what their children are eating
- The school discourages consumption of foods containing high levels of sugar, colourings and preservatives for health reasons
- Some children may have allergies to certain foods
- The wrappers are often hard to peel off the cane, coming away in ‘bits and pieces’ which often don’t find their way to the bin and thus create a litter problem.
I ask that you also speak with your children about these things and ask them to bring candy canes and cards home so that you can see what they have received. Many thanks.
ADVENT
This Sunday will be the Second Sunday of Advent. During the second week of Advent, we focus on John the Baptist’s challenge: Prepare the way of the Lord!
Second Week of Advent
Jesus, be our peace.
May the Peace of Christ live in our hearts during this Advent time.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Thank you for your generous donations so far. If you haven’t had the opportunity to donate there is still time to bring joy to those in need. Please refer to the notice included in this newsletter for inspiration. Our Mini Vinnies will be delivering our donations to the Parish Center on Monday 9th December.
END OF YEAR MASS
A whole school Mass will be held on Tuesday 17th December @ 10am.
During this Mass we will celebrate the end of the school year and farewell our Year 6s and any families who are leaving the school.
All welcome!
Children’s Christmas Eve Mass
The Children’s Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday 24th December at 6pm in Holy Rosary Church. Come and be a part of our Children’s special Mass to celebrate the birth of our Lord.
Children who would like to be involved in this Mass are invited to come and join the celebration. We need a number of older children who would be prepared to read.
Practices for the Children will be held on Saturday 14th & 21st December and Monday 23rd December at 10am. It is essential that children come to the practices.
To participate, the children must first have permission from their parent/s and an assurance that they will be attending this Mass.
Please email: watson@cg.org.au, or call the office 6248 5925 if your child would like to participate.
Peace and best wishes,
Ann-Maree Hinds

School families are invited to bring a picnic dinner and join in the 75th Canberra Carols by Candlelight, to be held at Stage 88, Commonwealth Park, on Saturday, December 14 from 7pm.
Organised by the Woden Valley Youth Choir, this event is the second longest-running city community carols in Australia (Melbourne is the longest).
Come and join us for a night of song and celebration. It's a great way to begin the Christmas season.
We'll also be collecting donations for this year's charity.
