Principals Report Week 3 Term 1
Dear Parents and Friends,
I have a few phrases that I like to share frequently with the students. Their purpose is to help children think about treating others the way that they like to be treated themselves; with respect. They are also designed to assist peaceful and gentle, inclusive play. The phrases are:
You can’t say ‘you can’t play’
Nobody’s the boss of the game
The more the merrier
To have friends, you have to be a good friend
If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all
These also fit beautifully with RPS which you can see displayed around the school and are core values of Rosary Primary School. RPS stands for Respect, Pride and Safety.
Ash Wednesday Mass
As a school community, we will mark the beginning of Lent by attending Mass at 10am on Ash Wednesday next week. Lent is a good time to slow down a little and to reflect on what we are doing to grow closer to God. It is a time to consider the needs of others who may not be as fortunate as we are. It is a time to give thanks for the many blessings that we enjoy and to think about how we might share these blessings with others. One way that we can do this is to support Project Compassion. During Lent, each classroom will have a box on the prayer table which is a donation receptacle for Project Compassion. Lent is an excellent time to think about the difference between our ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ and to sacrifice some of the money that might have gone toward achieving a ‘want’ so that someone else may have a ‘need’ fulfilled.
Reporting to Parents
At the start of this term, parents were sent a questionnaire to return to teachers which provided valuable information about the students in their classes. Thank you to parents for returning these so promptly. The responses have been much appreciated by the class teachers.
There is a form of reporting to parents in each term with regard to student progress and achievement:
Term 1: Parent Questionnaire and Learning Conversations
Term 2: Semester One A to E Report
Term 3: Learning Journeys (parents invited into classrooms to view student work)
Term 4: Semester Two A to E Report
The Learning Conversations take place after school hours in the last week of this school term. The aim of these meetings between parents and teachers is to check student progress and to set learning goals for the semester, indeed the year.
Of course, parents are free to make an appointment with the class teachers at any time. Likewise, teachers may request an appointment to see parents outside of the scheduled reporting periods.
Upcoming events
I look forward to seeing many families at Mass at 10am on Sunday which will be the final Rosary Community Mass for Father Kieran. I also look forward to the Swimming Carnival on Monday next week and seeing lots of our wonderful parent volunteers at the pool. Finally, I wish the Year 6 students a highly enjoyable experience on Camp in Berry this week.

Rosary Community Family Masses
Rosary Community Family Masses aim to promote a sense of belonging within our parish community. There are four Rosary Community Family Masses throughout the year. On each of these Sundays, the parish will organise a free sausage sizzle after Mass, especially for us. This is always popular with the children and provides a great opportunity for families to catch up. It would be lovely to see as many people as possible being active in our faith and participating in community building opportunities.

Being week three, it's lovely to see students settling into their new routines and Library days. (Please note that kindergarten students will start their regular lessons and borrowing Wednesdays from week 4)
We are in need of any parents or grandparents who would be able to cover Library books...so if you feel confident in your book covering skills and are interested in taking Library books home, please email the school or contact us through the front office. Thanking you in anticipation!
