Principals Report Week 6 Term 1
Dear Parents and Friends,
This week is Wellbeing Week at school. Wellbeing week is a good time to focus on family time and self-care and to spend some time enjoying the wonderful natural world that God created for us. During this week, we focus on physical and mental good health practices. Students are not given homework tasks and it is a meeting-free week for staff. Staff members were also treated to a special lunch today.
Morning and Afternoon Supervision
Please remember that, for safety reasons, no child should be on the premises before 8.30am at which time supervision commences. If you start work extra early, please arrange to have your child enrolled in the ROSACS before school service or supervised by a family member, friend or neighbour until the start of the school day. At the end of the school day, a teacher is on duty until 3.30pm in the quad. After this time, any students who have not been collected wait in the front office area but no formal supervision is provided. Please be prompt in picking up your child at the end of the day as teachers often have after school meetings and other work-related commitments to attend.
Sports Equipment from Home
Please ensure that your child does not bring his/her own sports equipment to school – with the exception of the little rubber bouncing balls and tennis balls that are used for playing handball before school. Please ensure these are labelled with your child’s name. The school has a generous supply of sports equipment for the children to use during the breaks. When children bring their own things, it creates problems on the playground with regard to issues of property going missing or being damaged and of ownership/power e.g. ‘I own the basketball, therefore I’m the boss of the game’.
Catholic Schools 2019 Enrolment Period For All Catholic Schools
The Catholic Schools Enrolment Period is from Monday 6 May – Friday 24 May (Weeks 2 – 4 inclusive, Term 2) for students commencing in 2020. If you know of anyone outside of our school community who has a child at a Pre-school or Early Learning Centre, please notify them of the opportunity to enrol at Rosary Primary School during the above period.
St Patrick’s Day
This coming Sunday is the Feast of St Patrick. Patrick was born in England and was kidnapped by Irish pirates at the age of sixteen. He was taken to Ireland where he was held captive for six years. In his Confession, Patrick writes that the time he spent in captivity was critical to his spiritual development. During this period, Patrick worked as a shepherd and strengthened his relationship with God through prayer eventually leading him to convert to Christianity. St Patrick is credited with teaching about the Trinity using a clover leaf, a shamrock, to illustrate three persons in one God. St Patrick’s Breastplate is known throughout the Christian world:
Christ be with me, Christ within me
Christ behind me, Christ before me
Christ beside me, Christ to win me
Christ to comfort me and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger
Christ in hearts of all that love me
Christ in mouth of friend or stranger.
Kind regards,
Vicky van der Sanden

Integrated Public Transport Network Update
The ACT Government is introducing a new integrated public transport network including bus and light rail services for Canberra for the beginning of Term 2, 2019.
The Government has recently released timetables for the new network, which will commence on Monday 29 April 2019.
I would encourage all schools, parents and students to find out how they can use the new services from Term 2 by:
- ¨ Planning their journey to and from school in the improved Transport Canberra journey planner at www.transport.act.gov.au, which includes dedicated school services for the first time; or
- ¨ Using the school pack that shows all the different services available for your school at www.transport.act.gov.au/getting-around/new-network/schools/schools-a-z-listing.
You can also find other information about the changes at www.transport.act.gov.au to help parents and students understand how to use the new integrated public transport network, including information about student safety, fares and ticketing and maps.
