Principals Report Week 6 Term 3
Dear Parents and Friends,
On Friday, Mrs Higgins, Father Mannes and I will be attending a forum (albeit remotely via MS Teams) for key personnel in Religious Education along with other Parish Priests, Religious Education Coordinators and Principals from across our Archdiocese. The Keynote Address will be given by Professor Brother David Hall on the topic Ever Ancient, Ever New: Principles for building the Church of the future. I acknowledge and give thanks to the Catholic Education Office and the Clergy of our Archdiocese for making this form of support available to schools and parishes.
Request from ACT Policing – Stranger Danger Information
This is a reminder to help our children understand the importance of stranger safety and the need to report any unusual incidents or approaches to staff immediately. If you become aware of an incident or notice anyone acting suspiciously around a school or child, contact police immediately on 131 444. In the case of an emergency, call 000. If you witness an incident or if you have any information that could assist police, you can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously. Please support us to keep our children safe by having conversations with your child about moving safely around the community and what to do if they ever feel unsafe. You may wish to visit the Australian Federal Police website that contains child safety information. In addition, Safety4Kids is a non-government website that has useful information and links. The Constable Kenny website also has a number of child safety tips for parents. Catholic Education will continue to work with ACT Policing on issues of child safety.
Allergies to Nuts
Please remember not to send nuts or products containing nuts to school. Several children are severely allergic to nuts and your cooperation in reducing risks to their health is greatly appreciated.
Food Waste
We have become concerned about the amount of food that is being wasted with whole lunches (many still completely wrapped) and whole pieces of fruit often being found in the bins. The children have been reminded to take their unwanted food home so that parents know what has been consumed (or not) and about talking with their parents if certain foods are disliked or preferred. I have pointed out that there are many people all over the world who never have enough to eat and who would be so grateful for the bounty of food that we are able to enjoy in our country. I ask you to discuss the matter of food waste with your children and to reinforce the rule that uneaten food is to be taken back home in the lunchbox.
Baby Congratulations
Holly Ellem in Kindergarten is now a very proud big sister to James who was born on 17 August. Congratulations to Sarah and David on the new arrival. Wishing the family all God’s blessings.
Condolences
Please keep Mrs Sharon Stiffle and her family in your prayers. Mrs Stiffle’s dear father passed away very unexpectedly on Monday morning this week. I extend deepest sympathies to the family at this very sad and difficult time and pray for God’s strength and comfort. May Sharon’s dad rest now forever in the loving arms of our dear Lord.

When at the church you will need to register each name and telephone number in the foyer (this is a government requirement). Liz Higgins
Religious Education Coordinator
The school calendar has been reviewed in light of the increased risk in the community and in line with Catholic Education protocols and advice from the ACT government and health authorities. Unfortunately, this means that we have had to remove most events from the calendar for this term and beyond. We cannot conduct events where large numbers of adults are likely to be present so this affects events such as school assemblies, Grade Masses and Liturgies, the Fathers’ Day Stall, School Disco, the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival and the like. Some school events will occur but will not be advertised on the calendar as they will be for staff and student attendance only. Hopefully, we will be able to reinstate all of these community-building events next year!
I thank you for your attention to these important matters and for your cooperation in ensuring that our community remains a healthy and safe place for all.
