Principals Report Week 3 Term 4
Dear Parents and Friends,
This coming Sunday is All Saints Day. This feast day was instituted to honour the saints collectively as there were too many for the number of days in the year to celebrate each individually! I think it’s just marvellous that there are many more saints than days in a year and it makes me think that it’s possible for everyday people to become saints. There is a tendency to think of saints as people who never make mistakes and who spend all their time dealing with spiritual matters. People who are now saints did live and work in the ordinary world but did extraordinary things out of a great capacity for love. May they inspire us to grow in love too.
On Monday, it will be All Souls Day. This day is dedicated to the remembrance of all those who have left the world before us. It is also a time to reflect on our own lives and think about the ways in which we too would like to be remembered. We pray that all those who have died will rest in the eternal peace of Christ.
Tuition Fees 2021
We have been advised by Catholic Education that the tuition fee structure will be as follows for the 2021 school year:
Tuition Fees 2021
ACT Systemic Primary Schools as set by the Catholic Education Commission
Per Term | Per Annum | |
1st child | $420 | $1,680 |
2nd child – 70% discount | $126 | $504 |
3rd child – 80% discount | $84 | $336 |
4th child – no charge | $0 | $0 |
A 20% discount applies to the first child fee where there is a sibling in an
Archdiocesan Secondary College.
CCSBF Contribution 2021
Per Term | Per Annum | |
Per family | $183.25 | $733 |
In addition, School Based Levies will increase by 3% as they do each year.
In order to provide our Catholic schools with the resources required and to continue to meet parent expectations for a high quality education, it is important that fees keep pace with increasing education costs. Fees are set after careful consideration of the needs of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese and the resources needed to maintain and enhance quality education. We are focussed on developing great teachers and supporting them to create respectful learning environments that enable all of our students to flourish because they feel safe, happy and motivated to learn and grow.
As always, if fees create financial concern for you, I encourage you to make an appointment with me to discuss how we can help. It is a policy in the Archdiocese that no student is to be refused enrolment, excluded or disadvantaged because their family is unable to afford fees. Any discussion on fees is always strictly confidential.
Classes for 2021
The process of allocating children to classes for 2021 starts now. The allocations are based on the following considerations:
- Friendships
- Learning abilities
- Balance of gender
- Behavioural considerations
- Personalities
- Religion – so that a balance of Catholic and non-Catholic children is achieved especially in Sacramental years.
As part of the process of allocating children to classes, the children are given the opportunity to nominate 5 friends with whom they would like to share a class next year. They are guaranteed to have at least one of these friends with them. These nominations are based purely on friendship and not on any other factors and are the child’s decision to make. The ‘Friendship 5’ lists will be completed by the children at a suitable time, in class, in the next few weeks.
My firm belief is that teachers are in the best position to decide a child’s placement because they know all the children in their classes and have a view of the ‘big picture’. However, I invite parents to inform me of anything that you feel needs to be considered, for your own child’s well-being or development. I have allowed 3 weeks in which to notify me of your concerns, in writing. After the cut-off date of Friday 20thNovember, it will not be possible to take further wishes into account.
Information needs to be provided each year as circumstances can change. I will do my best to accommodate your wishes but will not promise anything. Please be aware that requests for particular teachers will NOT be considered.
Class Structure 2021
Rosary has seen a rise in enrolments over the past year with many families expressing a desire to become part of our community. This is a wonderful affirmation for our school and we have been pleased to welcome many newcomers this year. As a result, we will be starting the year with the same number of students with which we are finishing this year, despite bidding farewell to a large Year 6 cohort.
Therefore, the structure of classes across the school will be as follows for the 2021 school year:
2 x Kindergarten classes
2 x Year One classes
2 x Year Two classes
3 x Year Three/Four classes
2 x Year Five classes
2 x Year Six classes
This is a total of 13 classes and the average class size will be 23 students which is the same as it has been this year.
Students leaving Rosary at the end of the year
Please ensure that you have informed me, in writing, if your child will not be returning to Rosary in 2021. This does not apply to students in Year 6. It is imperative, for planning purposes, that I have accurate information with regard to enrolment numbers. I also need to know the destination school as part of system accountability requirements. Thank you to those who have already provided this information.
Thought for the Week:
“To be saints is not a privilege for the few, but a vocation for everyone.”
Pope Francis
John O'Brien
Acting Principal
The school calendar has been reviewed in light of the increased risk in the community and in line with Catholic Education protocols and advice from the ACT government and health authorities. Unfortunately, this means that we have had to remove most events from the calendar for this term and beyond. We cannot conduct events where large numbers of adults are likely to be present so this affects events such as school assemblies, Grade Masses and Liturgies, the Fathers’ Day Stall, School Disco, the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival and the like. Some school events will occur but will not be advertised on the calendar as they will be for staff and student attendance only. Hopefully, we will be able to reinstate all of these community-building events next year!
Thank you for your attention to these important matters and for your cooperation in ensuring that our community remains a healthy and safe place for all.
- Play and Pray for Arrupe - Friday October 30th
- Walking Club Commences - Friday October 30th - 1.10pm (only for those students who registered and returned a permission slip)

If your child is prone to hayfever please consider the treatment you would like them to receive. If you would like your child to be given hayfever medication please fill in a Request to Dispense Medication Form and provide the medication to be stored in the sick bay.
