Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to the second term of the school year! The students looked very smart indeed in their winter uniforms and I am convinced they have all grown considerably in just two weeks! Given this lovely warm weather we are experiencing, the children can choose to wear either the summer or winter uniform to suit the conditions and how they are feeling as we want them to feel comfortable during the day. However, by the start of Week 3, they will all need to be wearing the winter uniform only. Beanies are not yet permitted – except to be worn to and from school if the children are feeling particularly cold. Once at school, the beanie needs to be swapped for the regular uniform hat. Please be aware that the only type of beanie permitted is the school uniform beanie which is a plain navy blue colour and free of any monograms. The start of May signals ‘hats off day’ in accordance with our Sunsmart Policy and that is when students can be at school without a hat and may wear a beanie if they wish. Of course, they can still wear the brimmed hat if they wish.
Open Day and Enrolment Period
On Friday 7th May, we will host an Open Day. Visitors will be welcome to come and have a look around the school at any time during the day between the hours of 9am and 1pm. The official enrolment period for Catholic Schools is from 3rd to 28th May. If you have a child who is commencing school in 2022, please ensure that you log onto the website and fill out the enrolment form online. If you have friends whom you know are interested in enrolling at Rosary, please let them know about the enrolment period and Open Day and inform them that the enrolment form is available via the school's website. Your help in spreading the word is greatly appreciated.
Supervision Times
Please note that supervision of students at school commences at 8.30am and finishes at 3.30pm. No child should be on the premises before supervision begins in the morning unless they are enrolled in before school care at OSHClub. Please make private arrangements for the care of your child if your circumstances make this difficult. In the afternoon, if we are notified that a parent will be inadvertently delayed, of course, children will be supervised until the parent takes over their care.
Pupil Free Day and Catalyst System-wide Professional Learning
On the Pupil Free Day on Monday, all staff engaged in professional learning focused on High Impact Teaching Practices as part of the Catalyst initiative that has been implemented this year across our whole Archdiocese. We also learnt about the new system in place for marking the roll using the Compass live application. At assembly this morning, I introduced Mr Michael Roberts, the Executive Director of COGlearn. Michael and members of his company will be working with the teachers over the next couple of years to support them with the Catalyst learnings through a ‘shoulder to shoulder’ mentoring and coaching approach.
ANZAC Day
ANZAC Day will be commemorated on Sunday and we will have a public holiday on Monday to acknowledge this important day which reminds us of how very fortunate we are to enjoy peace and freedom in Australia. I share the following famous poem with you to reflect upon at this solemn time:
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae (1872–1918)
