Principals Report Week 6 Term 2
Dear Parents and Friends,
This coming Sunday is known as Trinity Sunday. The clover leaf is often used to describe the Trinity to children as it makes this great mystery easier to understand; though, as a mystery, comprehension is not really possible – it is a matter of faith. The clover leaf has three parts but is one leaf just as God is one being with three forms – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. As it explains in Break Open The Word 2018: “The mystery of the Trinity can be approached
as a theological conundrum or as an adventure in faith. The word of God invites us to take the latter route. The readings of the day help us retrace some of the steps taken by our forebears in faith as they were led to discover Father, Son and Spirit communing in the one Godhead and enfolding the whole of creation in their love.”
Enrolment Forms
This is a reminder to all our parents with siblings who are of school age next year, to submit enrolment forms online as soon as possible. Numbers need to be known as a matter of urgency for planning purposes. The official enrolment period ends this Friday. However, we will continue to accept enrolment applications after this date.
If you are aware of friends or neighbours who have pre-school age children, you might also mention the need to submit enrolment forms quickly!
End of May is ‘Hats Off’ Day
In accordance with the Sun Smart Policy, the children do not need to wear a hat during the months of June and July. We will begin this practice on Tuesday of next week – after the Reconciliation Day Public Holiday. The usual rule about wearing the uniform hat will not be enforced over these two months but, of course, the children may wear hats if they wish as they do help to keep out the cold! School uniform beanies are available from the front office for $10 each and are a good option for the colder months. Please be aware that only the uniform beanie or one just like it – plain (no logos or additional colours) in navy acrylic or wool - are permitted at school.
Reporting to Parents
Communication between teachers and parents is vital to each child’s success at school. The following opportunities are available for Reporting and communication at Rosary:
Term One
Grade Overviews
Parent Questionnaire
Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations
Term Two
Grade Overviews
Student Achievement Reports
Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations (by request)
Term Three
Grade Overviews
Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations
Term Four
Grade Overviews
Student Achievement Reports
Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations (by request)
Parents can make an appointment at any time to talk about their child’s progress with the teacher. Open lines of communication assist both parents and teachers and ultimately benefit the child. Conversations with class teachers may be arranged before or after school hours by emailing the teacher or by phoning the front office.
Principals’ Retreat
Tomorrow evening and on Friday, I will be on Retreat at Galong with a group of Principals from the Archdiocese. I am grateful to Catholic Education for providing the opportunity to refresh the spirit in this way and thank Mr O’Brien, Mrs Higgins and Mrs Godfrey for leading the school in my absence. Galong is a small town steeped in history and the St Clement’s Retreat Centre is a place of great spiritual significance. If you happen to pass through the region one day, I urge you to take the time to visit and take a walk to the grotto, the pioneer cemetery, the labyrinth and around the beautiful grounds. I’m sure you will find the experience enriching.
Public Holiday on Monday
Monday of next week has been declared a public holiday in the ACT to recognise Reconciliation Day. The ACT is the first to recognise the day in this way and it replaces Family and Community Day. The purpose of the day is to remind us of the commitment we have made to build a better relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians. I hope everyone will get the chance to enjoy some special time with loved ones on Monday.
Thought for the week:
“Apologies don’t mean anything if you keep doing what you’re sorry for.”
