Principals Report Week 9 Term 2
Dear Parents and Friends,
As we approach the end of a very busy term, I note how hard students and teachers have been working toward assessment with the view to reports going home to parents. Sometimes, in the busy-ness of it all, we can get caught up with thinking about benchmarks and grades. It is important to reflect on the fact that at the heart of everything is the children. Parents and teachers are working together to help them become the best people they can be in a fully rounded way and in the light of the example of Jesus. Each child is an individual and learns and grows at a different rate to another and achievements and progress, no matter how big or small, are to be celebrated. With this in mind, I share the following with you:
“God gives individual gifts, and at different times, to each of us. This is the way we see his creation. If all the flowers were identical and they bloomed at the same time, it would be a dull world. So it is with people.”
From: A Canopy of Stars, Christopher Gleeson SJ.
After School Dismissal Arrangements
Please be aware that no student is permitted to walk to a vehicle unaccompanied by an adult. I have witnessed a number of students walking out the gates to parked cars on the courts and have been most alarmed by the near misses that have occurred! Parents and carers are asked to come through the gates and into the quadrangle to meet students and then accompany them out to parked vehicles.
Students who walk, ride or scoot must wait for the duty teacher to accompany them across the crossing and supervise their departure in other directions. They are not permitted to exit via the hall foyer to make their way home.
Students who walk home via the oval and the Phillip Avenue exit gate must walk around the perimeter of the courts and must not cross the courts area which becomes a carpark in the mornings and afternoons. Likewise for any student involved in sports practice on the courts or oval after school.
Enrolment Interviews
Over the past few weeks (and continuing), I have been conducting enrolment interviews for Kindergarten as well as other year levels for next year. It is a privilege to meet new families and to get to know the incoming students prior to them arriving at the start of the 2022 school year – despite the fact that I won’t be there to start their experience at Rosary Primary School; and I do feel quite sad about that. The children have all been delightful and most have been ‘super keen’ to show me what they know and can write and draw. They are all very excited about starting school and several are looking forward to being at school with older siblings, relations and friends. Parents have commented on the positive reputation of the school in the wider community and have acknowledged the welcoming and friendly feel of the place. One little Kindergarten starter for next year has referred to Rosary as ‘the calm school’ which is such a wonderful affirmation for us as that’s exactly what we strive to be! I am always so proud to show families around the school at ‘any tick of the clock’ because I know that they will find classrooms that are ‘humming’ with learning and that they will feel the calm that pervades the school – “out of the mouths of babes” as they say!
Work Experience
It is a pleasure to host a Work Experience Program for Lucy O’Brien from Daramalan College over the course of this week. We always benefit from the extra assistance that the work experience program provides. I thank Lucy sincerely for her commitment to making the best of her time in the school and for the wonderful contributions she has already made.
Condolences
I express sincere condolences to the Pistorius family on the passing of Karmin’s paternal grandmother, Rita Wolff. So incredibly sadly, Karmin’s step-grandfather, Felix Wolff, passed away only 3 days later. Both were in South Africa and, of course, this made things all the more difficult as travel was not possible to be with the extended family or take part in the funeral services. My heart goes out to the family and I ask for God’s blessings on them to find strength and comfort in the promise of eternal life for their loved ones. May they rest forever in the arms of our loving Lord.
Thought for the week:
“God, thank you for the gift of praise. Help me to nurture it in my life.”

REPEAT NOTICE:
End of Semester Reports
All Semester One Reports will be mailed out to parents on Wednesday16 June. Please be aware that we will not be providing the reports for collection from the front office. I ask you to check to ensure that the school has your correct mailing address. I extend my thanks to the teachers for the time and effort they put into preparing the reports. The teachers work very hard to ensure that the reports are an accurate reflection of each child’s progress and achievement. As advised previously, this semester, the reports will not include comments. Should parents wish to speak with the teachers following receipt of the Report, an appointment can be made via the front office.
YEAR 3/4 MASS – thank you
Last Thursday, the students participated in a Mass of thanksgiving for First Eucharist. After the Mass, Fr Mannes posed with the students who had received the sacrament on the 5/6 June for a group photo. Thank you to Fr Mannes for celebrating the Mass and to the teachers for their work in preparing and supporting the students. As always thank you to those family members who were able to attend.

Thank you to all the students for their borrowing efforts this term. We would appreciate families taking the time to check for any outstanding library books at home. Borrowing will cease at the end of this week, and we require all books to be returned as soon as possible. However, if you would like any books for your child over the holidays, please contact the School Library. Additionally, we currently have four bags of books to be covered. If you are available to cover books over the holidays, we would love your assistance.
A friendly reminder that all RPS students are enrolled in the Chief Minister's Reading Challenge for 2021. We hold the reading records at school here in the Library. Students record their books at least fortnightly. We encourage any reading done out of school hours to be recorded and then brought into school to add to their recording sheet. Each child is required to read at least 30 books before August 6. There are book prizes donated by Paperchain Bookshop when we complete the challenge! Please contact either of us for further clarification.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday.

The school counsellor, Jessica O'Rourke, is available every Monday and until 1pm on Tuesdays.
You can refer your child for counselling by filling in a referral form available on Catholic Care’s website or follow this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
After you have filled out the referral form you will automatically be sent an email requesting your consent for your child to access the service. In the case of families where parents are separated, consent of both parents is normally required. If this is difficult for you please feel free to discuss with Jessica.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in putting together our first edition of “Supporting Local Businesses”. Our first edition was sent out in November last year and it is now time for an update!
For those families not aware of this initiative, or to refresh your memories, this initiative arose out of a desire to assist Rosary families dealing with the economic impacts of the pandemic by promoting Rosary family businesses within our local community.
The current flyer will be updated to include any additional businesses and will be sent out early next term, so for all families wishing to promote their business in the next edition, please email the Rosary Council at rosarycouncil@gmail.com
